I did get in another big chunk of Ti, I just need to make the holding fixture for the 93mm size then I can hook you up for sure.  I can absolutely do custom engraving if you want, that was one big feature Ive always wanted to offer I just had no way to do it before.

Now we play the waiting game.

Is the fixture done yet?  No?  Okay . . .

How about now?  :pok:

I can be patient, I swear!

Using the set screw to hold in the mag glass on the brass mag glass holders I was making, I was never completely happy with.  So today I set out to redesign it.  Im thinking holding tabs above and below the glass to hod it in place, then tab that is held in by a screw to still make it possible to remove the glass which I dont want to lose.

So...lets see how this will work.  I'll need to make a fixture to hold the part accurately from both sides as I will need to machine from both sides to get the tabs cut.

Delicate work!

The difficult part is building the fixtures.  How to hold the work to do the work.

I did manage to get one customer knife done today.  The MTO one I redid the anodize as it wasnt perfect and bugged me.  So it still needs a polish and re-assemble.

You now, Bob - the beautiful brass holder you've designed for the mag glass is one of the main reasons I want you to do a knife for me. Started at a new job recently, and have to read alot of small numbers on many items. A pocket knife with a good magnifier would be a real blessing.  :tu:

I hear you on that.  The older I get the more often I find writing seems to be getting smaller.  :D  I hope of have some fancier brass mag glasses to show off in a couple of days

Today I finished up the fixture plate I needed for the scales.

SO with all this amazing stuff going on and I recall you speaking of some damasteel you had...........  Do you see yourself making blades for SAKs?  Like 154cm or S30V for example?

I can only imagine you not getting sleep due to all the possibilities of what you can do now.

Seriously, those scales reminded me of a movie, the fifth element, it had stones that represented the elements, and of course waves..

Yes for sure.  I've been researching and I'm going with CPM154.   Great steel and pretty afforable.  I belive I can make fixtures to blank the blades out and do the majority of the stock removal.   Personally I want some full flat grind wharncliff baldes.

:o that would be amazing!  CPM154 sounds like a great choice. S30V is hard work to sharpen and seems like overkill for an SAK.
Will you be selling just the bare blades?  And will you be able to do them with standard 3mm pivot holes rather than the 1/8" that you use?

From the place I buy it.

"CPM 154 is the good stuff.  It has excellent edge retention, fine, evenly distriuted carbides, great stain resistance and is twice as tough as regular 154CM at the same hardness.  This allows for thinner blades and edge geometry which results in better cutting.  As a bonus, it takes a better mirror finish than any other blade steel we know of. "

I have to learn to heat treat it and then I can make whatever people want.  The idea of a custom tool for me is about being as flexible as possible as really that is the value I think in getting something custom.

Yep, Ive been debating the pros and cons of the different shapes and I know the clip point is the more traditional north american pocket knife style.   A tanto or reverse tanto is also something Im interested in as it very functional as a utility knife.

So, you are basically "tiling the plane" on the scales. Which brings to my mind the great tessellation etchings of M.C. Escher, which are still under copyright, unfortunately. But you could create your own!
