Small peening hammer directly...I’ve tried other methods. They don’t work.

Make sure the hammer is mirror smooth to get clean hits. And the rod has a perfect cut, otherwise it distorts as you work it.  I work some fairly hard hits for a while direct head-on until I get a swelling, and then begin working the edge more gently, but keeping the hammer head vertical. You have to find the maximum distance you can work from central without hitting the scale to get a good shaped peen.

Difficult to explain and probably a million ways to do it. But with a few tries you’ll find a way that works.

Good luck and show us pics!  :tu:

That's a great pic Max - Thanks

Brilliant idea to start off with the flat end - I always started with the ball - But that is a much better technique

And it underlines the importance of an immovable anvil surface! Too long I wondered my my technique took so much effort, and the reason was my immovable surface wasn't so... immovable.
Hooked, like everyone else. ;)

All hail the hook!

I've been doing some batch work lately, a few wedding party orders for groomsmen and that sort of thing.  I just finished a batch for another company order.  The slanted icon on front is their logo.  Its nice to have the orders but it definitely gets tedious doing the same thing over and over so I think I still prefer one at a time for variety.

PM me or email sakmodder [at] gmail . com if you are looking for custom SAK work.

I need more space.  I'm actually thinking about leasing a small workspace to have a better work setup.

Hey Max,
Thanks for the tips on peening.  The illustration you did was great in clarifying the process.

I had a local customer swing by last week and drop off a firesteel sak to mod into a farmer x.  Just finished that one up today.

Is it theoretically possible to put the Swisstool crate opener on a 93mm alox?

I doubt it.
Larger pin diameter and way too wide for the 93mm frame.
You'd better ask Robert to craft you a similar tool.
