Wow.  :o

You know, I'm considering changing up my EDC to a pair of pliers and just a single Alox SAK.

I just love the way they handle.

That's impressive!

Are they all from models you've broken down or are you getting hold of scales separate? I've had a bit of a skim through the thread but there's a lot of posts to go through! :D
Cheers,
Stew.

There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

Lately Ive been doing everything in sets of 10s.. so I buy 10 pioneers, rip them apart, coat scales and move to next color.  Ive got 30 more I haven't ripped apart yet, but I ran out of red and black scales which are by far the most popular, so I think i'll do 15 sets each of those.   Alot of people have asked either for the black scales with red liners, or red liners with black scales.

I started keeping parts in a tackle box but I outgrew that ages ago.  I'll take a group part shot sometime.   :tu:

Syph007,

This thread has become quite long. You're also obviously beyond the "so it begins" phase. You might want to start a new thread for 2013 and begin it with highlight photos of some of your best creations thus far.

Fantastic work!

47 page / 700 posts thread is long? You must be new around here. :D This isn't even in the top ten long threads. Our longest thread just broke 15,100 posts today. I like this thread as it is. Lets you see the progress throughout time. But that's just my opinion, Syph007 might disagree. :D

Also, if I haven't said that already, welcome to the forum. Glad to have you here.

Yep I like having it all in one spot.  I started this Jan 20 of last year, so 10 more days and it'll be one year of modding.  I think I'll post a summary each year of what I learned and things I figured out.  Lots more left to do on my cool things to try list that I haven't got close to yet, so Im far from out of ideas!  :tu:

Syph, how thick is a 4 layer alox 93 mod? Does it feel like a brick in hand?

My 3 layer Farmer is about the same thickness as 2 layer celidor,
so would a 4 layer alox be like a 3 layer celidor?

Thanks

Sorry for the late reply.  Your question made me think I should make a little table of the common layers and thickness so that people can figure out how thick custom A with layers x,y,z would be.  Lots of people ask how thick a certain mod is, and they are usually long sold and gone so then I have to think about it and try to figure out what I used.  :D

So it really depends on what layers I use.  For example off the top of my head this is what I can remember.

Blade layer - 0.105 inches
Scissors layer - 0.100 inches
Pliers layer - 0.145 inches
liners - 0.032 inches
alox scales - I can't remember :D

No problem my friend, I was only having some fun!

Great idea to make a little table, but please also in metric, would be perfect.

They are waiting for black hard anodized liners, due back next week.  :D  I made up a bunch as they will look best i think with black.  Some will be getting BO'd tools as well.  ;)

Back to my first modding roots with this one.  Hard anodized red scaled pioneer with just a scissors layer added.  It's still a great simple configuration I think.

To be honest, I think these are my favorite alox versions you make. "Simple" and just right.  :salute: :D

That setup I would very much be interested in.  I would probably prefer the orange, blue or green scales though! :)

This red one was actually ordered by a lady as a gift for her husband for their anniversary.  Hope he likes it!  I know I'd be happy if my wife gave me a knife for a gift!

That's a good idea, to get the wife to buy it. I have a B-day coming up in a month and a half so that should give me time to sell it.

I would also like to see a version of that sak of yours without the scissors but using the mag glass and inline philips!

:D

I did one with the old mag glass layer.  For a plastic part it turned out ok.
