Now to 1 Up that, how about an orange & black camouflaged-look scale.  :D
Or orange flames on a black scale. Not sure if that cerakot can be painted on and mixed along side other colors or not.

When someone sees something that sexy it much makes your mind wonder. I like your new avatar photo!  :D

I've seen some camo work of Jeff's, but I dont know how hard it is to do, or what kind of options there are.  Id for sure go for some standard forest camo look though.  Next is OD green, lots of people want the OD green and my anodize green is more of a forest green, than OD.  I also want to pocket carry one of these for awhile to see how it holds up.  My guess it it wont chip, but will scratch up with keys, coins etc.

Ive still been calling the cerakote SAK an alox, but I guess it technically isnt anymore since there no ox.

Aluminum Oxide -> ALOX

Alumnium Cerakote -> ALCE ?  ALUCE?  CEAL?  Doenst have the same ring to it... hmmm

How about a portmanteau of sorts? I'll throw this one in: "ceraminum" or "ceraminium"

Ceralox has a nice ring to it.   I guess the 'lox' makes it identifiable as a modded alox that way too.  So a brass scaled alox could be a brasalox, titanium would be tiox.  :D

Here's some more orange Ceralox! Enki's favorite color!  This one is without keyring and with black oxide screws.  I really didnt expect to like the cerakote so much but I really do.  These will look sick with some black oxide tools.

I'm doing black tools and springs soon.  I just never seem to get the time to prep the parts for the BO.

:pok: :pok: ;)

I know I know!  The problem is those springs I got made up need a significant amount of sanding to be usable like a good half hour each, so I have to prepare them all to that level for BO'ing, as well as sand the stock ones to the same level so they texture match... so basically its like 10 hours of sanding ahead of me just to do the BO run...  I haven't been super excited to get that done, but I will start!

I did ask more about his process last time I was in though.  He sandblasts to surface prep... I guess that helps expose the surface on stainless.  Maybe Vic BO skips that step since their BO well.. isnt very good as you know.

What do you think would be better for 91mm alox.  Scales that are the same as the cellidor, that you press on, or more like 93mm alox with exposed holes?

I can see pros and cons to both.

The con of just pressing on alox scales is that the inner liners arent upgraded to alox style nickel silver.  The pro is its easy and anyone can do it.

The con of exposed screws or rivets is that its no longer a DIY job for anyone except people with tools.  The pro is that it looks nicer and you have to take the SAK apart so liners can get upgraded too...

Oh also exposed type means the SAK will be 2 liners thinner since we no longer need the outer liners under the scales.

Ya that makes sense.  I agree.

It wont be exactly symmetrical like a 93, but I would expose the end pivots and the backtool pivot, and keep the hinge pin hidden.  I think that's the best a 91mm will ever look dressed in alox :D

I'd like to see if/how well a cellidor scale model would work with those torx pins of yours. I may have to give that a shot once I get my modding legs. I can already tell from practicing that I'm not going to be a huge fan of peening

I'd want the exposed Alox type too, especially if it means you can easily DIY stuff :tu:

I picked up a florist SAK a while back for the sheepsfoot blade.  The idea is that I want to make an alox whittler and figured I'd give that blade a try.

PTRSAK already said the pivot hole was larger than normal, and it sure it.  Must be somewhere around 3.5mm or a bit bigger even as my 1/8 pivots are too small.

Anyways, so this means it needs a bushing.  I took some 1/8 brass rod stock and put it through and beat it until it spread out and filled the gap.  No need to peen if you try this, just hit flat and hard as you want to mushroom the pin itself inside the gap.  I trimmed the ends off with my jewelers saw and then sanded flush.  Now to carefully drill a hole the right size and we're in business.
