In many workplaces it's considered a safety hazard to wear headphones while working.Def
Sh*t finally came to a head today. It wasn't even about the radio though. Tensions have been high for a while, because the old A-tech was an arse so the owner had to have talks with him and he left. Both the body techs that remained were promoted and hired a new teardown tech who they actively refer to as "boy" despite the fact that he has nearly a decade of experience. So the new A-tech is the one with the radio. He is the whiniest turd I've ever met. I don't know if ya'll have any idea how the collision repair industry is, but the techs work on an hourly basis. They get a certain amount of time to repair dents and problems, and they usually only need half the time to actually do it but they get paid for the full amount, meaning these arse hols actually clear 70 to 100k a year. Which they promptly blow on drugs or tattoos if they don't need any more tools. So, they get really irritated if a car can't be delivered on time because they don't get their hours unless it's flagged as delivered. If it's their error, they hide it and blame it on estimating or something, if it's my error they scream at me. I checked in an incorrect headlamp yesterday and they found it today while trying to get the car delivered. Instead of just making me aware they had to try and embarrass me. They yelled and threw tools and parts(for real), and ran to the GM saying I wasn't doing my job because they said I also ordered and received the wrong molding for a car too. I admitted to the headlamp and apologized because I hate letting things through, but it really doesn't happen very often. I thought about it for a minute though, and remembered that the car in question didn't need a new molding so I went to look at it and sure enough, these morons had grabbed another molding for a different car(the correct side for that car) and failed to read IN MY WRITING the model of the car it was supposed to go on. So they were WAAY wrong. I called them out on it, and not in a nice way. The younger one decided to get in my face, about three inches away and threaten me and pretty much berate me for having "offended" him and disrespected him. I told him I was right and he should back up before he struck and got sent to jail, because i don't fight. I'm an adult. I walked away and he came after me again when I didn't back down verbally, so bad that our manager had to step in and stop him. This guy is 25 years old, and you'd thing he would know better than to threaten people, because he can't do anything to me that wouldn't land him in trouble, or at least lose his job. My manager sided with me unofficially, so things are good on that front, but I don't think the conflict is over. I refuse to be walked on by technicians. If only I could get a job running sales for a website or something, I hate working where I do. I left a prominent position running 4 different departments for a luxury Resort Hotel, I don't need this.
Better to hang around with us. We get along well and will not cause you stress.
... have a very flaccid approach to this.
Get a half dozen or so of these and spread them around their work area:http://www.thinkgeek.com/gadgets/electronic/8c52/?srp=1Def
Not really. The manager is bad, but he at least sides with me. The GM above him and the Owner both believe the Body techs are made of gold and can't be replaced so they usually try to coerce everyone to just try to get along with the body techs. Since what I do is (in their minds) easier to do than body work, they would rather replace me than the body techs. Never-mind the fact that the absence of someone in my position has made the shop run terribly throughout it's history, and the Parts system runs beautifully now albeit with the odd error now and again. Our parts profits are up(higher on average than body labor profits mind you) and there are seriously very few errors in my area. But alas, I know what will happen. I plan on having a conversation with my GM on Monday, but I know I will have to look for another option because they have a very flaccid approach to this.

My very first job out of school as a apprentice mechanic involved working for a tool chucking screaming psyco & he was the boss , no fun being miserable at work mate
..and in the current economic climate, do not make any rush decisions..
Sounding much better mate .Maybe some firecrackers on a timer fuse in their stereo might be a nice farewell gift
You owe it to yourself to get the largest loudest firecracker and toss it in their general direction as your parting gift. Just saying.
Great results! Congrats! I was going to throw the invite to you to plumb some beer with me if you we're stuck!Stay multi my friends
