Custom Gerber Dime
on: November 20, 2022, 06:14:13 PM
So I wanted to get myself a Gerber Dime to have an EDC tool and eventually mod it, and it tourns out I wont need the package opener, and I dont like the look of the blade.
So my plan is to make a custom blade with a Spyderco Dragonfly looking blade, replace the package opener by a file, re-build the Philips screwdriver with a small notch (3-4 mm) with the interior edge sharpened to act as a rope cutter, and re make a bigger flathead screwdriver to use it as a prying tool. I also want to acid-etch the tools with an aluminium wash finish. (Here is a quick montage I mande to have an idea of the overall look of the thing)

So what do you guys think about it ?

Looks nice, but won't the closed Spyderco blade interfere with using the pliers? How close do the handles get when you close the pliers completely?

Well that's a good question and I think I'll adapt the size of the blade after getting precise measurement of the size of the pliers or I'll swap it with the scissors and attach it to the opposite pivot.

First update :
Finally gathered what I wanted to add :
-A serrated edge blade and a bottle opener that I'm going to turn into a rope cutter,
-A bigger file that I'll cut and reshape into a smaller one
-4mm threaded barrels and washers in case I got to change the stock one (heard they are made out of a very soft metal) just in case.

And I ordered my Dime, it should arrive by monday or tuesday.

And I also want to make a full guide to disassemble and reassemble a Dime because I couldnt find any on the Internet

Well, after a very long time and loads of mishaps, here it is !
Mods I ended up doing :
-Brass thumb stud and heat colored blade,
-New Philips and small flat screwdrivers
-Wooden scales
And I discovered that you could store a small magnet in the bottle opener.
