OK, I know the appeal of a '63 red ALOX soldier, but what the heck is going on here? ??? US $455.00 with 7 hours to go? I've seen the same knife/year go for much less. Is it cause of the sheath? or just bidding frenzy?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Victorinox-Apollo-11-Craftsman-Astronaut-Swiss-Army-Knife-Limited-Very-Rare-/140796831197?pt=Collectible_Knives&hash=item20c82525dd

Not sure how rare these are. Very expensive.
Could never afford that.

That guy has been selling a lot of rare and semi-rare stuff at a pretty big markup from his original purchase prices on eBay. I suggest if you want something rare, try to outbid him the first time.

$550 is way too much for this knife, IMO, esp without the original box. Apollo 11s show up on eBay about once every 2 months (specifically, 13 times in the last 2 years). Almost always NIB, as they were mostly bought as "collector's items". Through early 2011 they typically sold for about $150 each, which is what I (and a couple other members here) paid for them.

In late 2011 prices on these shot up to $300-$350 each and have stayed there since. The most ever paid for one was $500, and that was to a collector in Europe well known for not really having a spending limit on his purchases.

SAK prices have increased significantly in the past couple years - lots of new collectors joining the hobby (places like this and SAKWiki help this a lot). New people = more competition for knives = higher prices. Alox prices have come down a good bit from the insanity of early 2010, but unfortunately 84mm and 91mm prices have done nothing but go up.

Yea, I've know about them for a while. They have the best price for the black farmers, they have a store off ebay too for you British.

They have a loot of good deals if you check out their eBay store. I say black Super Timers, MOP Accountants (w/ long file), many different color Cadets and the black Farmers. I asked them on eBay if they ship to the US. If not, I still might order some things and have them shipped to family in Italia.

They do ship to the US, Neil got a Farmer from them a few months ago. Have fun shopping :tu:

You would think they could have given up the 0.14, but no...  I think they priced them in lots of 10.  They just need to adjust their auction again.
