Here is another one, but this one has a catch. The bidder     a***a (357) is from Germany and uses a bid and retract technique. He very rarely actually buys or wins anything. He just likes to bid prices up and then retract.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/747-Victorinox-Swiss-Army-SILVER-Alox-Bantam-Knife-Gently-Use-SERVICE-TRAINING-/371306642278

How is this retracting done?  Was he perhaps just outbid?
I have a history with this guy. He tried to buy something from me before. If you click on the "a***a" part of his id you can see his bid retraction history.

In one of my old auctions he used 2 id's to bid up the price and then retracted both bids near the end and planned on re-bidding with a snipe bid at the end in hopes of scoring a cheap winning bid.

So in effect he bids it up hoping that others won't out-bid him and then retract his bid near the end to decrease the amount.  Crafty.
Yes. Like if I was to bid $100 on a $50 item and then bid $99 with a second id it would max out the top bid at $100 which is way over the top of it's actual value. Then cancel or retract both bids in the last minute or so and re-bid with minimal bid to win.

How does this work? Most folks looking at the item will acknowledge the item is overbid and probably will not bid even with a snipe bid since it is overpriced. Then with all the high bids retracted near the end there is no one watching or has it on their snipe list so it goes for cheap.

It does not always work though as there are many who manually watch and bid at the last second on auctions too. :P
And now if you will take a look at this auction you can see this guys sole purpose is to either cheat or make someone else pay a much higher price. Smurfity smurfer!
Here is another poor guy getting bid up by this smurfer who uses bid retraction to expose high bids. :twak:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Victorinox-Executive-Swiss-Army-knife-black-Alox-Alcan-logo-/301616504243

Somebody need to warn the seller about that ""a***a" guy to block him... :-\

Someone could call fleaBay directly I suppose. Sellers should (MTO sellers especially) cancel any bids by this buyer immediately, I know that's an option. Sorry R.  :(

Here's another wishful thinker. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Very-Rare-Victorinox-Pioneer-2223-Elinox-Vintage-Swiss-Army-Knife-/121530319018?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c4bc580aa

I warned one seller and he immediately cancelled his bids and banned him, but really eBay should just ban him completely (and he's up to 519 bid retractions now).

This SMURF really needs to be banned  :twak:.  I thought only under "certain" circumstances could a bid be retracted .  10 retracted bids should have had the bay taking action but seriously 500+  :megaslap: to both the SMURF and the bay.

If someone needs to retract a bid, perhaps they should not be permitted to bid on the same item again?  It's not big penalty.  No big loss.  It's not like their life is depending on it.

No penalty at all, as they have two user-id working in cahoots.  So the first user-id wins (for a cheap price) after the second bid is retracted (from the second user-id).

IF I remember correctly, Vic produced a numbered, ltd ed of 50 of the blue scale & red shield cadets which the catman sold for about $50 USD in 2013.

Yep, your right.  That isn't going to solve the problem.

BTW.  Is there a name for this specific type of scam or a term used to describe it?

Holey Moley - is a 68 Soldier worth $300? Even in this good of shape? I really dunno but it seems like a lot to me. But, I guess if you're filling one of the last holes in your collection perhaps.
