An old Motorist--used very lightly and sharpened only minimally.  Ha!  How about beat to smurf and sharpened on a bench grinder!  Seller wants $65 starting bid for this auction--a few months back, one in better shape had a BIN of only like $40 or so.

:)

You know, I have done that in the past. Most of the time I never got a response.
This time I just politely asked him to use his own photos. Which he probably won't.

Oh well. eBay just sucks. They almost never take any action on reported items.

It's a seller with a huge load of positive feedback, so I guess the buyer will probably get what he/she expects. Only thing you can accuse this seller of is of being too lazy to take his own pictures. I think it's similar to sellers using the stock photo's from the Victorinox website.

If people used my pictures for their ads I couldn't care less. After all it's just a picture of a knife :)

As a buyer I care, a lot.  If it isn't a picture of the actual item then what I receive may be different to what I thought I was buying.   I rely on the photo to show me exactly which variant it is, and in what condition, I am purchasing.  I have been known to send tools back if they are not what was shown in the pictures.

It might be just laziness in some cases, but it can also be deliberate deception.

I completely agree as a buyer.

But if you sell a new item, I don't really think there's a difference between using the stock photo's from Vic's website or using photo's found elsewhere on the internet. As long as the items are exactly the same and new. If not, the seller can expect returns and claims.

If you sell a used item you should use pictures of the actual item, and if not you should make very clear statements about it in the ad.

This all being said, using pictures that are not of the actual item is just very very stupid, from a sellers perspective. You'll risk returns, claims and negative feedback. I for myself would never take that risk.

An actual photo would be better if the item is "CAMEO" or "CAMEOFLAGE", whatever the smurf that is...

When I see old Solingen made souvenir Officer-esque knives like this, it's typically $20 or under. Not $300.
