Do you know his eBay name?

He’s not on eBay as far as I know.

Hey I have a 1902 officer's knife too!

Just with scissors instead of the woodsaw.
Good knowing what value they carry.

Also explains why someone contacted me to buy it for €200... ::)

Not that crazy. Not me, but I thought this one would have a good chance of cracking $1k.  Wouldn't be surprised if it's an MTO member. On some lists out there.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Rare-4-pin-91mm-Victorinox-Elsener-Schwyz-Swiss-Army-officer-Knife-/233382470287

.....

This strikes me as a bit more crazy...BIN price of $350.

I don't know if the buyer is an MTO member, but the seller is.  He's a great guy who prices his knives fairly; I'm happy to see him get a nice windfall.

That's not the sort of SAK I'm interested in, thankfully.  This hobby is expensive enough already.   :D

I know next to nothing about old officer knives. What makes this particular one more rare/valuable/collectible?

^^^  Have a look at the listing - Here's a partial quote:
Quote
One of the first Swiss Army Knives produced for the General public in 1897
The knife is very early from the late 1890's  - early 1900's  (Based on the tang stamps and the 4 pin construction)

So this model is about 120 years old - It is one of the first Officer's Knives ever produced.
The Officer's Knife was the first SAK available to the general public (as opposed to the military 'Soldier' models) and is the direct ancestor of what we all know as a SAK today
- So massively historically significant.
Check out SAKWiki: https://sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=Officers+Knife

And it is in amazing condition and they are extremely rare to find.

That should explain it hopefully :tu:   ....... Not that I'd pay $1,000 for one!  :o   .... But many would

EDIT PS. Fantastic sniping on the auction - 6 bids in the last six seconds of the auction - And one a minute or so before the end!
And a $760 price hike in the last minute or so!
Winning bid was a brand new bidder to that auction - Came in with a massive bid with one second to spare.
I say massive - As it looks like ebay auto bid the previous bid +$25 for the winning bid !

Thanks, huntsman!

I’d never paid much attention to the older models and it didn’t really register to me that it’s more common to see the older ones have 3 exposed pins.

That does sound like a very historic piece. I bet the winner is pleased to be getting it  :tu:

Three Hundred Dollars for a Pocket Wrench II--(presumably) because of the Snap-On logo etched on the bottom.   Even the $24.95 starting bid is about $10 too much.

How about $6500 for a 2010 Pioneer Damast LE?     It's a beautiful SAK, but....

He's also selling the other years' Damascus models.

Funny thing is that for the 2016 model bidding starts at 500, which is reasonable. But for the 2012 model bidding starts at 3000, which is never gonna happen!

This surprised me:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Victorinox-Swiss-Army-2014-VSAKCS-Red-Alox-Sea-Pioneer-New-/254524090171

I own one of these that is special to be, largely because I bought it directly from Jason Dillman when I visited his shop in Freeport.

But if someone waved $900 in my face it might become slightly less special.

Yeah

I know the value is the price the market will pay - But I do think these sales are way overpriced
- And some people have more money than sense  :pok:
Which counts most of us out on these sales   :pok:     :(

Looks like it was three bidders pushing up the price - And the winner put in a couple of massive bids
And a lot of activity, and sniping, and a 600 price hike, all in the last 5 minutes  :o

Yes, that was crazy.  The same seller had those two Farmers that appeared MIB and the price they fetched surprised me too.

I guess we all have our own definitions of what's reasonable, and that's ok.

Now that many larger Victorinox dealers are listing these at $70-80; the $150+ price tags are getting a little stupid.
