Tool stuff

Hey guys, it's been a while

I currently own both a Skeletool CX(birthday present) and a ChargeTTi. I'll throw the pics on in a minute, don't worry

I am in the DEP for the US Army, and when asked what I wanted when I graduated Basic, I said a leatherman MUT. I promise that the multitool I am getting has absolutely nothing to do with me enlisting.

In any case, I would like to post pictures of when I get it and how it holds up to service. Is this the proper place for that?

Just got my MUT EOD a couple of weeks ago,love to get the mate for it soon.As for the tti, my favorite LM. ordered a seclusion bo from Cabelas with my Cabela bucks,saved 55$. That Folder looks pretty cool.Have you used the hammer part yet?

I have an 11x Option 40 - allows me to learn skydiving

The folder is nice, I got it for my 17th when I graduated. It's a smith and wesson "special tactical", essentially black grip and BO blade. I am confused though - what hammer part?

Seems Like A Tough Little Knife, Though I Personally Love Spyderco, Kershaw, Benchmade, Etc.

I feel yah on the coffee, though I drink tea not coffee

The folder is great, it just needs fairly frequent cleaning on the joint, otherwise it really slows down

And It Seems Like A Good Knife. I Prefer A Plain Edge Though When It Comes To Knives And Tools.
If I Ever Need A Rough Jagged Edge I Have Many Saws On Many SAK's Available Lol. Yet I've Never Really Needed A Rough Jagged Edge.

I Suggest To Try Yourself A Kershaw Or Spyderco Next. Possibly Even A Benchmade.

I think I'll be issued the M9 bayonet. It won't be a folder, but when I get another one I think I will get a Spyderco - I have heard a lot of great things about them. And despite the pain it is to sharpen, I have been fond of the serrated combo blades. Or like the Charge where it has both

I use the serrated blades on stuff that needs more than a straightedge and less than a saw - like rope or ripstop fabric.

Oh, have you used the ones that aren't springloaded, but like slide out instead of flipping open? How do they compare such as durability and safety?

The Army doesn't issue bayonets anymore and they've taken the bayonet course out of BCT. The time that was allotted for bayonet training has been added to the combatives training.

You will probably be issues a Gerber MT. Its a BO version similar to the MP 600. It has the slide out pliers that you were asking about.

That option 40 is interesting. If you actually get to go to Ranger school it will be the biggest test of your life. My son is headed there this summer. He didn't go with option 40. He's a 19D that has already deployed once. His division (1CD) gets a few slots for Ranger school every year and they chose to send him this time.

I'm Assuming You're Talking About Slip-Its, Non Locking And Not Spring Loaded? Or Possibly You're Talking About The Ones That Aren't Lock-Backs?

Anyways, Use And Durability Is Wonderful. Safety Is Also Top-Notch. The Same You Would Expect From Something The Locks, Or Has A Back Lock.

I Love The UKPK's And Such.

I hate to be the one to say it, but that S&W knife is really only good for one thing- get up to about 70mph while going over a bridge and fling it out the window.

I have seen so many Smith & Wesson knives fail in so many different ways- you certainly don't want to be depending on that thing when it screws up on you. While I can find something good about almost any knife or tool out there, the infamous Taylor Cutlery crap (including Smith & Wesson and Schrade) are more worthless than monkey poo.

Combatatives training? That's the army equivalent of the mcmap right? A couple of my coworkers served in the marines. I do hear the ranger school is extremely tough, but has a higher pass rate than an 18x.

Yes, combatives is the equivalent of MCMAP.

I don't know what the failure rate of 18x is but the failure rate of Ranger school is 40-60%. There was one class that failed 80% of the participants. Ranger school is generally considered to be the hardest school that the Army offers.

In a story related to S & W. Years ago when I was a young LEO, my first handcuffs issued were the S & W
Brand. We young cops tried every trick we could learn to get them to work like their competition-Peerless
to no avail. They were in a one word description: JUNKY. After finally getting through probation, some of us bought the Peerless cuff with no regrets for the next 20 years.

I'm Not A Huge Fan Of Smith And Wesson Myself, Honestly.
The Knife Will Make A Good Beater Though.

Though I Still Suggest A Better Brand.

I used Smith & Wesson handcuffs almost exclusively for many years and I never had a problem with them. I still have my old pair that have seen thousands of bar fights and they still look brand new. I chose them over the Peerless because I found the secondary lock hole was too difficult to use in an adrenalin dump on a struggling suspect.

The company that makes the handcuffs and the company that makes the knives are two different agencies.
