Bob wasn't impressed by the Steady, but I liked it.  While it isn't meant for this I had to test it with a larger camera, and it held my trusty z650 with no problems.

While I'm not sure I'd put my multi thousand dollar DSLR and fancy lenses on it, but I was surprised at how well it held the big Kodak, especially since the folks at Gerber made sure to point out that this was not the kind of hardware the Steady was designed for.

As with any multitool, it's easy to go beyond the factory specs and break it, but I really like tools that can go above and beyond (within reason of course) and come back laughing, and in my mind that's the category that the Steady is in.  It's a light duty tool that is more than capable of handling moderate duties.

Thanks for posting that link.  I've decided to start carrying a camera on my hikes, this tool could come in handy.

I'd much prefer the runner-up prize.

Is it just me or does that Ultimate survival pack actually look pretty okay?

I think the light is an Infinity Ultra? I just bought one on the recommendation of a bunch of other folks here who recommend it for its cost.

I don't recognize the MT, but it's not a suspension. Tool locks are in the MP400 style, but it's got a butterfly design like the Suspension. Not a bad combination, imo.

And the firesteel looks pretty standard. All in a rubber case.

I wouldn't buy it for (amazon price of...) $60, but I sure wouldn't mind getting it for free.

The multitool is a modified Strata. :tu:

Thanks. I'll take a look at the original Strata for comparison.

The Strata kicks ass.  :tu:

Personally, I'd prefer the BG grippy handles with the regular Strata plier head.

Still almost a week to get in on this drawing folks, if you haven't already.

If I stop to consider relative price, and usefulness, I think the Ultimate Survival Pack certainly seems like the best bang-for-buck in the BG line. I certainly don't think I'd feel embarrassed getting one of these for a scout, or kid just getting into hiking/backpacking.
