Probably old news, but I was at my bench and realized...

They have been squared off for awhile now, but I thought it was to keep them from rolling once you lay them down.

That's what I had thought, and then I was looking at it, and I said "That looks like a 1/4 inch bit..."

I was aware of the new shape, but I hadn't thought of the fact it might fit a 1/4" socket, very clever mate.

Well I can't say a driver that small would ever NEED to go in a 1/4" wrench. Finger and thumb would generally be enough I reckon, BUT it does open up the possibility of storing additional mini drivers in other hex storage wotsits.

Well spotted mate  :tu:

Well well well. I also was aware of the new shape but hadn't clued into its use as a bit driver. Good catch.

What a clever find! Is there any record of this being discovered before? I did a few searches and haven't found no one referring that. Wonder if Victorinox did it on purpose of if this was just a coincidence, due to the involved measures...

I had noticed that about the one that came with my WorkChamp, but didn't consider it would fit into a bit holder like that.  I also assumed it was just for anti-roll and more grip while using it.

Nice find.  Makes me want my new CT34 even more now!  (Should be here on Wednesday.)

That's good and bad. Good because the CT34 is an awesome tool, bad because the bit driver is only 4mm hex whereas the mini screwdriver is 6.5mm (1/4 inch) hex :-\

Not sure, but I'll ask Vic North America on Monday morning and see if I can get an answer (unless someone wants to ask in Switzerland first, they'll be open 6 hours earlier...)

+1

New shape was discussed quite a while back, but not sure if anyone had figured out it fit a 1/4" bit driver yet.  Not sure how practical this is, but it is a very nice find and might come in handy one day.

Doh!

Actually, TS, that reminds me, do you know if there are any T6 bits that are compatible with the CT's bit driver?  I'd love to find a T6/T8 bit for it because those are the two sizes I use most often.

Wiha seems to be the leader in 4mm (commonly referred to as "micro") drive bits, but they don't have the spring ball retainer like the CyberTool bits do.

And while there are a few inexpensive micro sets on Amazon, they all seem to be magnetic retention.

Hmm

Cybertool Bit-Driver

Yes a T6 is available, but hard to get.  Check with Neil, he might be able to help.

Cool!  Thanks!  A combo T6/T8 would be perfect for maintenance on my Spydies!

It makes me wonder though, if the bit driver could be magnetized to help it hold bits more firmly.  Might be a possible solution to allow the use of Wiha bits.

You could try stroking the bit driver several times with a magnet to magnetize it.
Or similarly magnetize the bits, which are considerably smaller and may take the effect more strongly.
