ATTENTION PLEASE-POSSIBLE SERVER OUTAGE

Now that I have your attention, I can guarantee there will be some kind of server outage in the near future- I'll try to update the timeline as much as possible.

The short version is we are changing servers- the company we are currently with is so amazingly useless and incompetent that I am planning a trip to Germany to beat the crap out of each and every person in their office. The current issue is they can't find this month's payment (despite me sending them the Transaction ID and screenshot from Paypal), and they may shut us down prematurely. It is noteworthy that they changed their PP payment system this month, so naturally the problem is on our end.

If they shut us down, Whoey is performing backups twice a day so we won't lose much, and we'll fire everything up on the new server.

Our new server is available to us, and I think we are going to start working on transferring the whole Defender Web Empire as soon as possible- at which point we will be offline for a short period while the transfer is done.

So, bear with us- if you try to log in and we aren't here, don't worry, we are working on getting back online as quickly as possible!

No problem. This has been coming for a while, ever since they disconnected us for several days over the summer for something that could have been fixed in an hour, then disconnected us for a day a week later for the same reason, only because some idiot there didn't realize he was looking at an email from a week earlier.

One of the nice things about the new home is it won't say it's running with 4g of RAM and only be running 2g, but still sending us the full bill.

With any luck, if things go well the forum should be down for only about 20-25 minutes. If things don't go well it could be a few hours or more.

I'm refraining from commenting on that as a) it would be somewhat slanderous and b) not family forum friendly. Think of the things that fit in those categories that are associated with Germany, then imagine those things in the most derogatory terms you can and you are at about 3% of the way I feel about the people at Serverloft.

I just got off the phone with Paypal customer service who confirms that there is indeed a payment sitting there waiting for them to accept it. I also got the joy of paying a $2 "privilege of paying bills" fee as well.

Remember this is the same company that shut us down for several days over the summer for something that could have been fixed in an hour, and shut us down for another day a week later because they thought there was another problem, when it turns out they were reading old emails.

Thanks folks- the new server is going to cost 30% more than the old one so that was a bit of a concern, but I'd rather pay the extra and get some kind of service rather than continue with the current company. You get what you pay for I suppose.

I'm home from the day job... looking at starting the site migration, but my immediate contact at the new host is a bit busy atm...

I'll try to make it all as painless as possible... if one of the sites is being transferred it's likely you'll see an offline/updating screen... this will allow me to grab a new database copy and upload to the new host, thus not losing posts.
