I assume that LEDs like a PD of around 4.5V and 3 batteries can produce that, or maybe it's just for the round shape you can get with 3AAAs close to each other

Yeah, but I think these are aimed for the folks than buy and use alkalies. For rechargeable batteries users that's not the ideal combo.

I have one of those lanterns, and they are surprisingly bright and easy to use.
Great to have around the house.

I really like the lanterns mentioned previously and have gotten another 5, to give.

The battery life is very good - a couple of weeks with a few hours of use every night on rechargeables.

....on to new things.

I got this Stanley minitripod 1-95-393, as it was on offer in a shop I was visiting. 3.5 Euro. It was cute and cheap. (other colours are also available)

It is a keychain light that can be used as a regular torch or as a standing torch, on a tripod, and can throw, in that position, a beam at upwards, at 45 degrees and vertically. If you only pull out the front leg you can also make it throw a beam downwards.

The beam is OK but weak by today's standards as the torch uses an old fashion LED (possibly a 0.5W one). It runs on watch style batteries. There are some other similar models with 3 LEDs.

The beam has a very strong purplish tint in the middle and a funny shape.

Only one power setting and no zoom

OK for the money and the "look"

I remember seeing one of them at a B&Q (a big DIY store) and it was a heck of a lot more than 3.50 Euro!  If I remember correctly it's got a much bigger brother that's marketed at builders and the like.

 :pok: enki-ck ?

It is available for sale on amazon UK for £13.5 which is way too much. I do remember seeing them around here for around the same, which is why I never got one before... but for what I paid I am happy as the batteries probably cost as much.

What? :P

Do the legs serve as battery tubes? I see a potential problem there with bending or braking the contacts.

I was getting worried   :D

No, the batteries are in the torche's head, behind the LED.

Olight S80 Baton, Cheap - $25 from SPAMCORP
With that you get a branded light, charger, included 26650(3.7V) 400mAh battery, Diffuser, hard case... really the actual light is just a bonus  :D

Looks good. Takes 5h to charge and the battery has to be a specific Olight one, in order for the charger to work.
Other 26650 batteries can be used, but not charged in the light. The olight battery was available for sale for about $11, so if you wanted to, you could have bough an extra one.

Tailstands!
Hidden Strobe
Orange peel reflector

Specs from Olight:
    750 lumens   180 lumens   10 lumens
    2 hrs                   8 hrs                80 hrs

XML Cree LED
No PWM was noticed

Included:

Charger port - the newer olight models come with a charging base

High

Medium

low

with the diffuser on

I decided to take some comparison shots with the SA22 as they are both easy to use, floody, same cost lights.

high

medium for the olight and 3rd stem for the Sa22

low for both

The Olight appears a bit brighter on high (Ceiling Reflection test), with a more white tint. But, it does run on LiIons

Overall a very good buy, for the price.
The included battery and charger make it easy to use for people without LiIon chargers or experience.

The main issue I saw, was that it does not have anything to stop it from rolling, so if you put it down make sure that it is not pushed  :D

I got a couple more SK68, SPAMCORP edition, in Camouflage

XP-E Cree LED
3 modes, low, high, strobe

Next mode memory..

compared with some other similar models
(see previous posts)

(All on LiIons)

both have similar beams

high and low

with the UltraOk

The ultraOK has a warmer tint and is noticeably brighter

With the Ultrafire

Similar...

Good, shiny, thick anodising
Better quality than the Ultrafire
"Branded"
Very smooth operation, good, smooth threads.
Not very noticeable PWM on low

Overall a good product, though You just buy it for the look - TACTICAL !!!

It took me ages to find this thread.... so eventually I had to go through all dks'  posts (and lemme tell you, he spams a lot [and he spams with lots of pictures, too]), through lots of pictures... through lots of hairy men pictures... to finally arrive here, post a pic of my clone and forget about it.

But those lights are quite nice for their price.

Ohhh, since there's such an option, I've probably done so, indeed  I like stuff as simple as possible usually

I'm a regular reader, although I don't post much...
I like these cheap LED flashlights, and I bought quite a few in the last year:
Convoy C8, Convoy S2+, couple of SK68's and some Nitecore and Xtar chargers along with different size Li Ion batteries.
I do own some more expensive torches, like Surefire, but I lately almost exclusively edc Convoy S2+ and I'm very satisfied with it.

OK, so after some time I got some lights to give as stocking fillers, though I may keep some for myself.

1st the Nitecore tube, for about $6. There are several proper reviews of them around the forum, by the way.

I got a black, a blue and a pink one.

Specifications:
Max Output
45 lumens
Max Beam Distance
24 m
Max Beam Intensity
150 cd
Max Run time
48 h 0 m / 2 d

LED
High performance LED ???
Battery
Rechargeable Li-ion
Beam color
White light
Length
56.5 mm / 2.22 in

Head Size
21 mm / 0.83 in
Weight
9.6 g / 0.34 oz

You have the option of 1Lm, 45 Lm and through a "secret" menu the option for various setting between these, something that does not seem too useful/clever.

The light will go from low to high, but, it will not stop at high and instead it will start from low again.
A 3rd, 10 Lm, fixed mode, would have been more useful, but less gadgety.

There is an instant turbo mode, from off, if you keep the button pressed, which is just the 45Lm mode, faster/tactical.

It comes with two different sized key rings

It is small, not minuscule, but small.

Here is a comparison picture with a classic

and another one

and one with the definitive SAK

It is light but it does not feel flimsy

The packaging does not say much about charging, but it has the usual USB charging port most phones and tablets have nowadays, microusb, so charging it will be easy.

You connect it, a blue light comes on, and when it goes off it is charged.

The charging port is covered with a rubber cover.

Inside the light you see the battery, which remind me of LiPo batteries used in RC cars/toys, rather than of a LiIon battery.

The wires are also visible

The beam is floody and at small distances it has a weird shape

However, it is bright enough

Compared with the Ultrafire A3 (on high), which produces around 100Lm

on Low there is a difference

but on high not so much

Also compared with another, floody, light

A good buy, which has the backing of a proper company.

2nd, something cheaper, $0.70.
I am sure replacing the battery will cost more..

It comes in carious colours, and you need to keep the switch pressed for it to give out light (shown here next to a proper SAK  :P  :D )

Compared with the nitecore above (low)

again (high)

Less bright, but decent. It seems to give out about 20Lm.

and compared with a "police" AA light

A classic keychain light, a lot more useful in reality than a fancy multi mode lumen monster

compared with another 18650, small light

came with some accessories

Solid clip

OP reflector

Compared with the Olight S80 on full
The A6 is definitely brighter

It is also brighter than the SA22

Not as bright as the TR 3T6

Clever modes, reasonably easy to use

Battery level mode  :)

Bright but not for long.

The light goes off max after less than a minute.

Even so, it gets hot quickly.

In summary, the main problem with it is that it gets hot quickly and switches to minimum.

I was replacing a socket at nigh in dark room, and after about 5 minutes (including the automatic stepdown) it got so hot it went to minimum, leaving me basically in the dark.

The light is definitely bright but it gets too hot very quickly even in cold weather and uses up power fastly. (Panasonic unprotected, 3400mAh)

It should work better as a bike light, with the wind providing additional cooling.

PWM is not noticeable and the battery check mode is a good addition.
