Gary Carter dead at 57

Now, this one hurts MUCH more than losing Whitney Houston ever could to me. Gary Carter, "The Kid", Hall of Fame catcher for the NY Mets and Montreal Expos, has died from brain cancer at 57. Growing up, Carter was one of my idols. A man who even when at the top of his game gave back so much to his community through programs and charity work, unlike so many of these spoiled smurfhole "role model" athletes nowadays. He will be missed.

Not being a baseball fan I admit I had to look him up. Looks like he had a heck of a career. Fifty seven is way too young, and brain cancer (any cancer) is not a good way to go.

He played for my Giants for a couple of seasons too... Wore Johnny Bench's number then too. He was a great leader in the clubhouse and you could definitely tell he loved the game. He will be missed, for certain.
