Red Zilla- Sportchek Exclusive
on: February 22, 2012, 02:35:18 AM
I'm putting this in the Collector's Forum since this was a limited run a few years ago and are pretty hard to find now.  By putting it here folks will hopefully realize this one isn't currently available anywhere that I know of, making it a collectible!  :D

As the title implies, these were made for Sport Chek a few years ago (at least I believe it was Sport Chek) and are pretty hard to find these days.  I had an opportunity to get them and I got two, both of which were delivered to my hotel in Las Vegas in 2008 when I went to my first SHOT Show.  This was amusingly also the first year we met Launce Barber and Tom Stokes, the guys who designed this tool and amusingly enough, they didn't even have red ones!

Other than the color these are pretty well standard.  The red is also a bit brighter than it looks in my awful pictures, but I'm still experimenting with the new light tent, so this is what I have!  :P

Of course these have never seen any pocket time- I have regular Zillas for that!  :D

No one cares about the red Zilla?  I thought it was pretty neat....

I generally like CRKT products and the Zila but this is really, really ugly.
That colour cheapens the whole tool;makes it look like something you would buy from a discount shop for >1 euro....  :ahhh

As it turns out I have given all my regular Zillas away and all I have left are the red ones.  I suppose I will have to order more!

The color is almost like a SAK red in person.  Sadly my pictures made it look bad.

Try taking your pictures with a white rather than neutral grey backgound. I found that you get better colours, brighter and more vibrant that way.
Grey seems to dull and wash out colours and if you try to boost them the grey gets boosted too, minimising the effect.

I actually did initially, but the black head and bits were washed out then.

I thought the ones on the grey background were better so I didn't bother posting these ones, but here you go just in case you prefer them!  :D

Really you need to cut grey paper to size, to put under the blade and pliers and white paper to put under the body of the tool, then take a picture!!

That's kind of what I thought too!  I'd hoped a neutral grey would be the best bet.  I wonder if going darker (ie black background) would help?

It's about time youshowed up and corrected me!   :twak:

I asked CRKT about different colors this year but it is pretty intensive to manage it.  Apparently it's not worth firing up the molds for runs of less than ten thousand.

I would love one of those Def  8) 8) 8)

I think TOXIC GREEN with the black tools would look   .

My 2 Zilla's flippers have never worked particularly well even with pivot tension adjusted  :( :(.

I wonder if the Zilla's flipper would sneak past Aussie Customs  (Flippers are illegal to import into Oz)

I have some micarta I have no plans for, and I was eying a standard Zilla- I'm surprised no one has modded one yet.  The scales are just screwed on.

I'll bet a custom Zilla would be awesome.
