Pocket Watches
on: April 14, 2012, 01:35:39 AM
I find myself wanting a pocket watch. I've always been a bit OCD about knowing what time it is and what better way to know than with a pocket watch.

Yea yea..a wrist watch would be easier but lacks that certain something.  ::)
( i currenty wear an Ironman -Timex)

I've been poking around the webz a little ..probably older ones are built better like anything these days..Elgin seems to be both widespread and affordable for a starter like me. Looks like after some infamous late 19th century train wrecks due to non-synced watches the railroad made their guys carry much more accurate time pieces.

anyone have any advice for one that would be daily carry and use? And if you have some let's see them pics  :D

I have a Victorinox pocket watch which I carry regularly. Nice, no-nonsense, rugged, water proof and well built. Probably rather more utilitarian than what it sounds like you are looking for.

Victorinox pocket watch

If I had the budget, I might have sprung for an Aerowatch (can't link to specific models on the site, since everything is Flash. Why, perhaps people could look at the products and discuss them, and that would be bad for business!) or perhaps an Orient.

Check out the Hamilton's. Especially the Hamilton RailRoad.  :tu:

A very high quality watch in my opinion. Work of art too.  :salute:

Find a watchmaker that specializes in repairing mechanical watches and see if he can hook you up with something inexpensively.  The few watchmakers I know in town usually have old mechanicals and nice pockesmurfches coming out their ears.

Other than that, yeah - a Hamilton Railroad really is a classic of the genre.

I would really like one of those Vic pocket watches , if I could find a bargain  :dd: :D.

I would avoid a smurf as a pocket watch  :P they would take up too much pocket space  :D

And ruin my fun?  Heck no!

Plus it's apparently a bad enough word that the Brit mods felt the need to add it, and I'd hate to upset them.  Some of them are pretty delicate!
