I like that one Mat- you don't see those too often.  Leather is far more common for these.

Great thread Allan! :D Good to see the package made it to you safely. :) Sorry for all those greasy fingerprints and drool stains all over it, but I couldn't help myself. :-[ :D Seriously, I couldn't resist snapping a few pics as it passed through. Here's a shot of mine (left) alongside yours (right)

Looking closely one can see the differences between the early series (Allan's) and the later one (mine). The blades and plier heads are the same, but the plier pivots, beveled handle edges, and AL MAR stampings are clearly different. :salute:

As Mat pointed out in his Shared DNA ? SOG Toolclip & Al Mar 4x4 thread, there's lot's of similarities between the two of them..  8)
Btw Mat, it looks like your 4X4 doesn't have the beveled handle edges like mine, but it still have the handle stamp..  Transition/"in between version" from early to later maybe.. :)

A few more pics..

I just love the shape of the Al Mar blade soooo much.. :dd:

No question those two are close relatives Allan. :salute: They are definitely two of the most classic fixed-plier-head tools ever made, and both from Seki City, which is no coincidence I think.  :) But of course there are a couple of other Seki fixed-heads which share more than just the same point of origin:

Interesting- mine doesn't have beveled edges either.  I hadn't even noticed that.

Nobody will believe that Allan, because you would have accepted the offer :pok: :D

Seriously though, great detective work :salute: Yours was the first "other" 4x4 I'd handled besides my own, and I just assumed the beveled edge was something they did on all the early-built ones, but apparently not

It does help to have such photogenic subject matter. :multi:

Ok.

I'm going to be honest here. I've never much liked multitools. There, I said it. I've just always been more a swiss army knife kind of guy. Leathermans just don't do anything for me.

But this.... this is beautiful.  :tu:

Well here is my 4x4 example. I considered myself very lucky to get one.

And here is my copy of a Quickclip 2004 model IV as the box states. No serial number like Mat's though.

Just decided to catch up on the Collectors forum today, and man o man.  The pics my work pc will allow through are breathtaking.  Allan, nice score my friend!!  It's threads like this that make me wish I had the money to collect tools instead of BST them all the time.  If I collected I would never be able to get anything new.
