The straight pins are on the plus scales.

Not entirely true. The newest plain scales on many models have the "hole" for the straight pin, but they come unequipped and so you have to add one yourself.

My original SwissChamp from the 80's with plus scales does not have the "hole" for the straight pin.

If you are careful popping your scale off, it takes five to six passes with a needle file to make the groove.

I know the Explorer Plus has a pin.  Its my favorite "full size" SAK.

Just heat up a pin in a flame (held in pliers) and push it in where the hole usually is.
