There are a few Gerber that are still on my 'want' list, one of them is a Diesel. :)  let us know how you get on with them. :tu:

So far they seem to be a little on the flimsy side, but all in all not bad so far.

They're good MT's...  although I like a 3d Philips.

Nice score there kman! :tu:

Hmmm, when the Diesel (imported) first came out, I felt certain that the MP600 series (made in US) would be phased out pretty quickly. That was back in 2005. Now here we are seven years later, and both of them are still around. I wonder why Gerber continues to produce two lines which overlap each other so much? ???

Probably so they can manage multiple markets- the MP600 for military and professional use and the Diesel for the more budget conscious personal use mass market.

That would be my guess anyway.

Well, that's what I thought at first too. But a quick check of Amazon shows that Gerber Diesels are listed for right around $50, and the almost identically-equipped MP600 Pro Scout is selling for the same price.

Is that MSRP though, or prices from a dealer?  Also, I think there's probably more of a markup on the Diesel than the MP600 since the MP600's have to be more reasonably priced for government contracts like military purchases.  If you built one more dollar onto the price of something, that makes it an extra $100,000 by the time the order is filled and budget committees don't like that, so you slice the good ones thin and make the extra off the consumer grade version.

I dunno what the MSRP is, but then again, I don't know of anyone who pays MSRP for...anything. :P

And I would have thought there would need to be at least a good $10 difference between the two to justify both lines.

Yeah, the Diesel and MP600 really do seem to be very much the same kind of price over here, with the Diesel going for slightly more on average I'd say.

With the Amalgam of some of the Diesel's features onto the latest MP600 from SHOT that you guys saw, I'm wondering if the two lines might be merging?  Just a thought. :)

The 3d Phillips from an MP600 fits in my Diesel.  Makes it all around better for my use.

This thread has inspired me to give some more pocket time to my Diesel.  I got it around the time that a few other multis showed up (I can't remember what else I got then though) and it never got the attention it deserved.

well that's interesting.  I really wonder why Gerber don't do that themselves?
