old mora #1 ?

old mora #1 ?

Just wondered if any of you guys had any info on this mora #1 i got today, ive not seen one with a plastic and leather sheath  :think: i also got my mora companion today and love it, the #1 is going to be a little project and really like the change of meatal and wood , thanks for any help guys,

the handle was red but was sanded down when i got it, i might do it red again,

i tired it tony but didnt like it compared to my opinel, i filled in that gap between the metal cap and the handle as was bugging me, the handle is now wrapped in brown electrical tape as was a little slippy and now fits in the sheath better, this will make a nice camping knife , ive added a bit of paracord so i can wear it around my neck,  :tu:

I'd advise against the electrical tape.  It'll start slipping of the layers and be all dirty and gluey. Try that grip tape for tennis racquets or bicycle handlebar tape.

... or ... wrap the tape around the blade for safe handling, dye the handle dark using your shoe polish technique, then use one of the opi's to carve/whittle away at the Mora handle, then varnish it.

Two tone handle effect, waterproof and grippy  :tu:

Thanks for the ideas guys, i dont like the tape so know ill change it asap, im going to glue some thin plastic on the inside of the sheath to beff it up so the knife doesnt full out, watch this space  :tu:

ok the tape is off and i just tried food colouring  :D i read on the net it works, and now my handle is yellow, although i still might try red but will have to pick some up  :tu:

I also got this new mora companion today in SS, i think its the replacement for the clipper and has a almost full tang,

well i got around to dyeing the handle in the end  :tu:
 plus taped a bit of inner tube in the sheath to hold the knife in better,

Tea is a good cheap/free stain if you want to darken pale woods. Not as pretty though ;)

cheers chrissy, yep moras a great value for money in this day and age  :tu: i hope the companion gets plenty of use this year, i was hoping to give it a go this week but ran out of time , oh well there is next week   :tu:
