tapatalk or forum runner?
on: September 12, 2011, 05:07:35 PM
Okay reading forum on phone is a pain on the butt, even though opera reflow text so I don't have to keep scroll left and right.

I've seen praise and otherwise for both, forum runner is about half the price, has anyone tried both? Which works better?

Also how do I know if a particular forum supports one of them other than buying it and try?

I was wondering that myself.  I have Tapatalk and I know others here do as well.  I have no idea whether Forum Runner is any good, worth the price etc as I've never heard of it until now.  I have however heard of Tapatalk here and on other forums, so my thought would be that it's more prevalent, for whatever that is worth.

The only issue I have with Tapatalk is that when you see a link here on the forum and click on it, it tries to open it in a browser window rather than opening it in Tapatalk.  Overall though I like it a lot.

I also use tapatalk, don't really have any bad things to say about it other than what grant just mentioned. I find it works really smoothly on my iPhone 4. I hardly ever log in from my PC anymore.

So, I bought the tapatalk and have the icon on my iphone 3gs.  Does someone mind telling me
what to do next to get it to work with this forum?     Thanks.

Are you still having a problem? I see you were sorted in another thread.

Okay I just said screw it and got tapatalk, so now I get to use the annoying sig too :D

One of the reasons I got it is actually so I can read forums in black background, save a bit of juice so my phone will last through the day.

You can edit your sig line or remove it if you don't like it.

Never tried forum runner.  Tapatalk is a bit disorganized in that it is innaccurate in the "participated" section, and I can't jump to the end of longer threads at all.

I have taptalk on my 3gs.

I really like the app because it does what I think its supposed to. But I havent tried the other one either.

As far as taptalk goes, I think things are organized the way that they need to be organized.

My only issue with it is that when you go and open up a thread, it automatically goes to the last page and at the very bottom.

I dont like this because I want to read ALL of the replies that have been made on a thread before I post on it. So, now I have to click on the first page number, and scroll to the top.

There may be a way to change this setting. But I haven't found it yet. Some people may like that it does this. I obviously don't.

It drive me bat crazy sometimes.

I realize this is an old thread, but I would personally like to put in a good word for Forum Runner. I have both Forum Runner and Tapatalk, and although Tapatalk is far more polished (looks better), Forum Runner has a really cool feature set in my opinion. Also, you can set Forum Runner to send you notifications and whatnot through the application (as opposed to getting an email every time someone messages you or replies to a subscribed thread). There are a few other features that I prefer as well, but I'll leave it at that for now. Now only if Multitool.org worked with Forum Runner, I'd be set!

If there was some interest in Forum Runner, and assuming there were no issues with setting it up, I'd be happy to set us up for it.

I have never used Forum Runner, nor have I really looked into it, but if anyone else wants us to give it a shot I'd be happy to look into it.

I haven't had a chance to look into it yet, but I promise I will.  As soon as we figure out what is involved in setting it up we'll probably just go ahead and do it,  assuming no major issues with it.

Maybe what I am reading is out of date, but it doesn't look like Forum Runner works on SMF boards like this one?
