Help with ID of Gerber pocket tool
on: March 03, 2012, 01:24:00 AM
Hi I'm new to the forum.
I bought this pocket tool 15 years ago and have not seen another like it in years.    At the time I bought it I was torn between this or the Leatherman Micra but chose the Gerber because the tools locked.    It has been my constant companion all these years and has been used for thousands of jobs.    Now it's showing it's age, the reamer broke earlier this winter and the spring on the Fiskers scissors broke years ago.
Does anyone know what it's called?    I'd like to find another to use for parts.
Thanks for your help.

It's a Gerber MultiLite- an amusing contraption available at finer flea markets everywhere despite having been discontinued some time ago.

Collectors love them because they are kind of oddball.

Thanks that was a very fast reply.    It is a little odd ball not having a needle nose pliers but the tools it has work great and have been invaluable over the years.    I bought this in 1997 in Towanda Pa.
Funny you mention flea markets when we lived in Gainesville Va in 2001 there was a flea market across the highway, one of the stands had a dozen of the plastic covers in different colors.    They were made in China.    I didn't buy any but wish I had.

All the ladies say I'm the fastest....  :D

Flea markets tend to be where most folks seem to spot these.  I don't have one myself so I really don't know how good they are but some folks seem to really like them.  The bottom line with this, as with any tool is that it does what you need it to, and that you have it with you when you need it.

I agree if you don't have it with you it's worthless.

We often talk about what tool is better than another and it makes for some interesting discussion, but I have to say that even a less popular tool is better than nothing when you need it.

Unless of course it's a Schrade, in which case you'd be better off with sun baked dog crap.
