Love for alox?
on: March 12, 2012, 08:16:16 PM
Hi all, newbie here.

I've been carrying a sak most of my life from high school on, and I've had all kinds of them. Tinker, huntsman, hiker, classic and others. But my first sak, and the one that will aways be my favorite, is the pioneer. I have my old original red pioneer, retired now from a long working life, and in my pocket is a silver alox pioneer. I've always loved the alox handles most. The knives seem like they are built like a tank, and if I could only have a single sak, it would be an alox.

Is there much love for the metal handles here?

CB.

I'm almost going all in on alox in my collection. I also carry a blue farmer as my EDC.

I got blue, silver and black farmers and black, red, sand gold pioneers and still waiting for black farmer and pioneer with red shield...

Much love.

While I am more of a Cellidor SAK person, I like the occasional alox SAK.

There MIGHT be a few alox enthusiast here. ;)

Yea, but just a few ;)

I actually got my first alox SAK after joining up here, about two days after becoming active from a fellow member. I have 7 now, a drop in the ocean compared to the collectors here, but a big enough number for me. But my true love remain the plain red ones, a SAK without a corkscrew is just incomplete for me. I'm weird that way. :D

Huge Alox fan.

I EDC a Blue Farmer as well, but have 8 or 9 different Farmer variants.   And a couple First Mates.  A few Soldiers/Pioneers.  I also have a couple 84 mm Alox (Bantam)

I also have a couple Modded Alox SAKs with scissors added.

I agree.  Alox just feels more solid.

Alox? What's that?

One of these perhaps? Lol. I have more of them than I care to say. I didn't know of them either until this forum. Now I just can't get enough.
If I remember correctly, wait, what was I saying?

I'm one of the few guys on here that hasn't latched onto alox as strongly as everyone else. I have three, which to be honest are rarely used - although I'm not driven to part with them either. I've been thinking about it a bit recently, and with the tool set they give (without modification), I think I might prefer a traditional Scout pattern knife - so that might be my next direction to go in

Who knows after carrying a scout knife for a while, I might drop back into carrying alox a bit more for the lighter carry  I do have a couple of stainless scaled Wengers though which I really like, and have another on the way

Anybody knows when the New coloured Cadets are coming out and the prices?

http://www.victorinox.com/ch/product//Swiss-Army-Knives/Category/The-Original-Swiss-Army-Knives/The-Original-Swiss-Army-Knives-small-size-84-mm/Cadet-Colors-Limited-Edition/0.2600.L1229

Also, which colour has the potential to be the most "collectable" in the future?

Orange and red maybe?

Just checked, price will be $55 or 49CHF or 45€ and will start to become available around Europe after March 15th.

I like Alox SAKs because the tools are beefier than the plastic scaled models.

Also, I can clean the knife and not worry about solvents eating the scales.

:tu: That's the great thing about alox sak's  is that they are much easier to clean inside than the plastic. And they stand up to solvents. Cleaning my gun once after a trip to the range, I dripped some gun cleaning solvent on the handle of a tinker, and it sort of half discolored and mushed it. Not good. I like a pocket knife that stands up to whatever comes along. Soldier, farmer, cadet, pioneer, settler...

Here they told me around summer time; they have not been asked by victorinox to place an order yet.

Great choice! An even better choice might be the Soldier. I like it somewhat more than the pioneer.

My humble alox collection :

I'm starting to like alox a lot, the feel of it in my hand, especially with 'pre-loved' alox SAK's.
