Packing Iron. . .
on: November 14, 2006, 01:04:28 AM
Do you prefer to carry your multi vertically, horizontally or some other way?

I'm fond of horizontal carry at work.  My SwissTool X lies along my belt and isn't intrusive.  It also doesn't poke me in the ribs when I'm sitting.

Oddly, on the weekends or when wearing jeans, I carry my Original in its original sheath, vertically.

What do others do?

I almost always carry them vertically, but then I am also paranoid about losing them.  In the vertical carry position the snap or velcro can be opened (like when it catches on something getting in or out of my work truck) but the tool will likely stay put.

I absolutely love horizontal carry.  I can't stand having things on my belt that poke me in the back or side.

We need to start a thread about what tools are available for horizontal carry :)

I think the only tool I have that can be carried horizontally (with the original sheath anyways) is the SOG ParaTool.  Of course I don't often carry this one because the tool is kind of awkward.  I think maybe I'll carry it tomorrow, just so I can try out the horizontal carry and see what I think.

I've tried both, but usually end up going vertical. No preference really, it's just that most of my sheaths are built that way.

One thing that I could never get used to though is the Leatherman "unfolded tool" carry. (Is it just me?)

The only tool I have found that really "fits" that way is the Juice with the leather sheath.  I have tried with my Surge which also has that option in the sheath but it just doesn't fit right.

I also just noticed that my Surge has a horizontal carry option too.  I'll give that a shot instead of the ParaTool I think....

Why is it we seem to have a rash of male midsection pictures lately... I think I'm somewhat disturbed by this trend.   I think we need new forum rule.  If your going to take a picture of a multi being carried, get your wife/girlfriend/female neighbor to pose for it :)

Hmm... I guess I should have clarified that... get your wife or, if you're not married, your girlfriend to pose for the picture.  If you're not married or dating someone, attempt to get any member of the opposite sex to pose for the pic.

I vote for this to become a "Tool Law" hehehe

It'll make them much nicer to look at :)

Maybe we are just doing this to increase female membership here?

My female neighbor doesn't wear a belt............she wears suspenders.  :o

Question: When wearing a multi tool sheath on a suspender, with the strap going through the "horizonatal" loops, is it considered horizontal carry, or vertical carry?

I think vertical since it is the tool's orientation that matters.

Either way, you don't want to see a picture of my neighbor lady wearing one.   :P

I use vertical carry more often because few holsters permit horizontal carry.  One exception is the bicycle inner tube sheath I made to carry the Victorinox One Hand Trekker.

When at work , vertical on my suspenders , almost never horizontally , takes up way too much belt space . Off duty , pocket clip in right front pocket .
