Too big depends on what pants I'm wearing- looser fit pants allow me to comfortably carry a bigger knife.  :D

If it freaks people out at work it's too big.

Full disclosure:  I work in a financial services office and it doesn't really take much.

It's so hard to find the perfect setup.  For example, I really like to carry the Blue Ripple, but sometimes when I put my hand in my pocket, the sharp edges of that knife just pisses me off.  Lol.  That flipper lever, ouch!  I learn to live with it.  Because I like it's finer aspects.
But, it is long and digs into my leg sometimes when I squat down, but  It's worth dealing with.

I carried a Strider AR clipped in RFP for a long time. I`m not really concerned about large folders. I now carry a Spyderco Military most of the time and dont even know it is there.
What? Enablers! Are you serrrrious? Where? I dont see any.

If you have to lower your chair or adjust your mirrors depending on which knife you have in your back pocket, your knife is too big.

This is one of those games right?

I have been downsizing my blade length considerably in the last decade.
I parted with my 18"machete(s)* and now have a 12" ontario 'cutlass' latin machete, even then it not likely to see much travel use as my old machetes as the Cold steel spetznav shovel is more travel friendly

My longest non-machete knife would be my Gerber ASEK, which is really a small knife when you compare it to other full-sized knives. Yet i have a gerber prodigy for more realistic day to day profile of the knife, add the little stehk kizlyar and the camillus pilot knife. I also have a aitor jungle king that lives in the car tool roll, its more garden implament than knife though.

Anything bigger than a neck blade for general urban use to me seems a excessive. Sure keep something bigger in the car tool kit or worksite. On particular work days i have becker necker bk11 but generally its the little becker remora bk13 that sees daily use, i have started carrying a crkt RSK inside my wallet cause it fits and the remora with the keys .

Whilst we tolerate the Dundee's in the outback trying to explain why its necessary to have a bowie in the cupholder may not really be in my favour next time i have to stop at a RBT

I think Grant said it best; the weight of the knife matters to me as well.  Even the Buck 110 I've been carrying lately has quite a pull on my belt.  One of the heaviest items I can recall is a ST300 which just about tugged my pants off!

Between the massive size (I have long fingers, but still  :o) and the weight, I don't really see how others can carry the ST300 in something other than a belt with suspenders, either.

My largest knife currently is a Gerber Applegate-Fairbairn folder, it's simply too large, but, conversely, one of the smoothest opening knives I've ever held, moreso than the Spyderco knives I've handled, and the few Benchmades I've held in my hands.  It's like butter.

Anyway, back on topic, if there's such a thing (:D), I don't really like overly large knives:  after a point, they become too large for me to use effectively.  I think that's why an 84mm to 111mm SAK fits me so well.

Well, depends on what you are doing and where you are.

At work, I carry a folder and a SAK becuase it would freak out my boss if I wore even a small fixed blade, but on the weekend if I'm not going into town I swap the folder for a packlite or something similar. When I'm in the woods, I usually have at least that much, but I used to carry that inverted under my vest for years (among other things).

But the first rule for me is, is it in the way? If it is, you've got too much blade, the wrong carry method, or both.

What is 'Oompa loompa' ??

In the classic musical/movie Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory the Oompa Loompas were these dwarf like creatures that did all the work making candy.

They would sing and dance while working.

Original Old School Classic Oompa Loompa Music Videos

Since then they have become kind of synonymous with tireless workers who live for the express purpose of performing menial tasks.
