Fishing my favorite sport
on: March 28, 2012, 02:47:44 AM
Nothing better then casting a line out and awaiting that big ole bass to take it. I absolutely love fishing. I'll post some pics of me with a few of my big old bass catches. If you can't tell bass are my favorite fish to catch. They put up a fight and I enjoy that. BTW I refuse to eat any fish. I can't stand the taste of fish so its just a hobby. When I was 10 yrs old I won the fishing derby around here in my age group. Nice catfish made me the winner. Still have the trophy proudly displayed at home.

I used to do a ton of fishing.  When I was younger we belonged to a private lake club, and the fishing was great there.  Bass, pickerel, crappies, perch, etc.  My father had a trailer only about a hundred yards from Willowemoc Creek in the Catskills, near Livingston Manor.  It's a very famous fly fishing area, plenty of brown and brook trout.  I do have a river a short walk from where I live now, and the few times I've been fishing there I've caught a couple of browns.  Gotta get my gear ready for this season........

I don't eat fish either, but it is fun pissing them off!

Pike aren't pissed off, they are very helpful.  Imagine for example that a small fish has glommed on to your bait.  You have to reel it in, pull it off the hook, toss it back, re-bait the line and start again.  Unless a helpful pike is in the area and decides to be nice to you by eating the small fish so that you not only save a lot of time but also have a decent fish to show for it!

I love catching pike- unlike other fish the fight really starts once they are out of the water!

I caught a pike once and it twisted around when I was pulling it up on pier and broke my damn pole! The only revenge I had was as it swam away it was pulling a hunk of string and pole attached to the hook in its mouth. I'm sure the pole soon fell off but the hook and line was still attached.  I still haven't forgiven it. :D

Salsmurfer!     I doubt I will ever get over that!

Besides, why do you need to leave home?  You can fish in your living room!

I used to fish, for Carp in dams, quite regularly a few years ago but have not done so recently.
I also used to enjoy fishing in the sea but it is rare to catch anything decent sized there. I am considering starting again this year..

I used to fish regularly with a spear gun. That way you can enjoy loking at the sea bed too and have the "rush" of actually chasing after the fish, trying to trick an octopus into coming out of its hole, seeing how deep you could dive...

I eat what i catch  :salute:

I've tried maggot drowning a couple of times, and didn't really get it. Not ruling out trying again at a later time though

There needs to be copious amounts of alcohol to make it really interesting!

Or a big ass fish to tow you out to sea!

I'd suggest a smaller fish or bigger boat.  It might be kind of fun to fight a fish like that for 11 miles, but you really don't want to have to paddle back afterwards!

... Or try to change your underwear in a kayak! You were selling the idea to me with the lure of alcohol, but that nailed my enthusiasm to the floor ;-p

We used to put a shack over a hole in the ice and spear smelts. Cheap Port wine provided warmth. A shack would usually fit three or four people. A fridge door or a bunch of oats would be sunk to brighten the bottom. Never deeper than 6' of water or so. Good times.

Fishing is foodgathering and work, so you use a net or thingies I don't know what's called in English... (It's basically a tiny keel you attach to a line from a small boat, so when you row, this keel will move away from the boat you're in. On the line attaching this small keel, more lines with lures are attached, so you get a lot of hooks in the water at the same time. Can someone tell me what this is called in English? In Norwegian it's called "oter", like the animal otter.)

Fishing with a rod is for drinking beer, chatting about The Big Questions and hoping you won't catch anything.

Fishing as a sport, I've never really understood. :D
