Master List of Implement Uses
on: April 01, 2012, 04:11:55 PM
The other day someone listed a different use for one of the implements on their multitool that was actually in the instructions but generally we don't think to use the tool in that way. I was very pleased myself to learn the the V-cutter on a SOG makes a awesome wire stripper.
What unintended or undocumented uses do you have for your multitool implements or pliers? I was hoping this might serve as an unofficial "instruction book" of sorts for all different multitools.

The orange peeler on a Victorinox Executive is a great thumb opening tool.   :ahhh

The Package Opener on the Wingman is a good line cutter. I cut 550 paracord and a zip-tie with it, no problem.

I have used a closed pliers head to partially debur holes cut in sheet metal.

The Alox awl works well to make countersink holes in wood and plastic.

The can opener on the Wenger SAKs is great for opening clamshell packaging.

The nail file/cleaner on many SAKs also makes a good Phillips driver. On the Wengers, it is a #1, on a Vic Classic, it is a #2.

The parcel hook on the back of many Victorinox SAKs is good for fishing wires through tight spaces.

The awl on many SAKs is a good multi-purpose scraper and light duty prying tool.

The small screwdriver tip on the Victorinox can opener also doubles as a light-duty inline #2 Phillips. Careful about it folding up on you though.

The wire stripper on SAK screwdrivers/bottle openers IS actually good for stripping wire; you just have to cut a ring around the wire, through the insulation with a blade first. It's a two-step process, not a one step process.

The Vic Classic lacks a large flat-head screwdriver. But in many situations, I can close the nail file half way, and use the edge of it.

For folks who don't use the toothpicks on SAKs for their intended purpose, they can be used to dig pocket lint out of the joints and cavities of the knife.

The T-handle awl on many SAKs could be used as a make-shift weapon. Probably not life-threatening, but certainly it would help the defender punch some painful holes in his/her attacker.

Corkscrew can be used to help loosen up knots that are un-touchable with fingernails alone.
