I'm sure ours spreads herself out so no one else can sit down - it doesn't look at all comfy.

Mind you, she's more comfortable to sit on than a guitar - but also more squirmy.

I'm jealous, as our dog does pretty much nothing useful whatsoever.

It destroys shoes, has a fetish for toilet rolls and requires 2/3 of a king size bed to sleep. It also barks too much and steals things from my office to chew on the lawn.

i'd disagree Dave -

Basically, I don't like dogs but after 20 years of nagging from SWMBO (and our youngest heading off to university and me working away all week) I finally succumbed and agreed to get one last September.

see, your kid(s) are away, you're away, i bet you a couple pints your wife gets great comfort having the hound with her when she is alone. It might bark, be destructive (which can be trained out of her) etc, but you can't beat peace of mind and company.

as for cats, well, i'm not overly fond of them. we have three, they're supposed to be working animals but spend more time inside then outside. Caught my eldest mutt (one in my avatar) and one of the cats either side of the table this morning helping themselves to breakfast leftovers

as for the mussels/shellfish, the youngest just chomps through them . . . he also ate the handbrake handle on my car few days ago, first time he has destroyed anything   >:( >:( >:(   :bnghd:

Nice looking dog, I bet she takes some wearing out. Is she a Whippet or Lurcher?

I've such a soft spot for racing dogs.  they are so poorly treated for the first half of their lives, existing only in a crate and being let out to use the washroom, run and eat before being put away again until it is time to do it all over again.  Many times when one is adopted out from a situation they don't know their own names, they don't have any training at all (no, sit, stay, shake a paw or other simple tricks) and they have no experience with the world at large.  I love watching videos of greyhounds doing something for the first time, like this one, that found a nice sandy pit and went ape smurf because she was free to do whatever she wanted.

It must be a thing about dogs, both mine go loopy like that on sand. It's great to watch them play like that.

Cheers Kev - she is a whippet greyhound cross - She can make the Kessel run in 12 parsecs.  :salute: When she's not dashing around up the park she's crashed out on the sofa - great dog for a small flat, but she's not good on her own so there is always one of us with her.

It's so sad isn't it. And they have such a lovely temperament. Although Bonnie is a rescue dog she never raced - she was from a home with very boisterous children and a scary man, left alone all day and fed intermittently - she comes across as very shy and withdrawn at first, but has been becoming more and more herself as she realises she's in a safe place. She's very sweet and strong minded - house trained and playful and will come when called in the house and on the lead, but we have to be careful where we let her run (no cats, rabbits or squirrels close by) as she's very prey oriented (as you'd expect from her breeds).

Your two are beautiful - I love the way they trot around with a ball in their mouth.  :salute:

Dogs are great, but also disgusting as times.

My Yorkie dragged his bum across my dining room carpet last night and left a brown snail trail. He's a right minger at times.  He wasn't impressed with getting his back end washed at 11pm last night and blown dry to make sure he didn't go to bed wet.  I don't think my neighbour would have been impressed with me having the carpet cleaner out that late either.

My Westie is going to the vet this morning. I let her out this morning and she's started puking and staggering about. She's 14 so more than a little worried about her

The vet can't find anything obvious wrong with her, she's a little dehydrated because of the vomiting. He says she has arthritis in her back legs which is expected at her age.

He's shaved a bit of her neck and taken blood to get tested, and I'll find out tomorrow what's wrong with her hopefully.

I'm hoping its the back end of the bug my Yorkie had then passed to my Westie, and she's just not shaking it off as well as he did.

Fingers crossed it's nothing serious

Got fingers crossed for you here too buddy.

I just got back from a frantc visit to the vets. My daughter rang me at work to say she was out with the dog, could I run up to the rec with my first aid kit. Grabbed my FAK, ran as fast as a 48 year old who doesn't run could and arrived to find Bonnie had ripped one of her claws out while dashing around. Blood everywhere!

I cleaned her as best as I could and bandaged it but the blood immediately started seeping through. Luckily the vets is only a couple of minutes from the rec so I picked her up and carried her. The vet was good and saw her straight away, and soon enough Bonnie was bandaged up again. There was blood all over the place.

She's in her bed now and should be fine (hopefully she's stopped bleeding now). Apparently this is quite a common whippet/greyhound injury and they bleed like no one's business.

Got back from the vets, changed out of my hairy bloody clothes and got back to work. Phew.

Ouch!! I hope she's ok and makes a fast recovery.

The vet just rang me, they have the results already. My Westie (Millie) has anaemia, a low red blood cell count and high white blood cell count, so he suspects it may cancer. I've got to take her back in for 2.15 for more blood to be drawn to be sent away for cancer testing. Once he gets those results it will tell him where to scan so we can go from there.
