Hi, is the scissors spring on 91mm and 84mm interchangeable?

I don't think so, as there are two separate sizes available :salute:

There are four sizes.  Small for 58mm, large for modern 91mm. But there are also specific springs for 74mm and a different size again for 84mm and old 91mm. You can modify the modern 91mm spring though to fit the 84mm scissors.

The only 84s Ive seen also use the older style spring that is curved at the end and not the modern style that is pointed and rides in the little groove on the scissor handle.  Modern 91s are just a tiny bit bigger than the old 84's, so they should be able to be modified fine to work.

IIRC the little 'curl' that fits into the body of the scissors is notably smaller on the 84mm spring compared to the 91mm one.  I've never tried modding one myself so I'd be interested in hearing how others have done it. :)

Here's a 91mm spring next to 84mm scissors with modified spring. Not the best looking job, but it works great.

I just crimp the round in a little. Using a 1/16 punch and tap lightly into place.
If I remember correctly, wait, what was I saying?

The info on the springs comes from Neil and if you need springs for 84mm scissors, he has them, they just aren't listed on edcsource so you'll have to PM him.

Amici,
I recall when I had ro replace the spring on my 20 + year Swisschamp, I found some doc  online at the time that turned out to be quite helpful for a pretty painless procedure. Picked up my springs from Rotokid a few years back plus some.

Cheers,
Serge

Instructions from The Swiss Army Knife Owner's Manual:
"Pull out the scissors (or pliers) half-way, so that the hole in the
fixed arm is well clear of the body of the knife. Put the knife on its side on
a table. Support the scissor-arm with something about the same thickness
as the height that the scissor is off the table, like a pencil or several coins.
Put this support close to, but not right under, the spring-hole, which is filled
right now with the circle-end of the broken spring. Get an awl or find a nail
with a tip just larger than the hole in the center of the spring-end, but
smaller in diameter than the hole in the scissors. Hold its point in the center
of the circular spring-end and tap the head of the nail straight down
with a hammer. Light taps will do it. The support prevents bending the
scissors and keeps the hammer-taps solid. And so drive the broken spring
out of its hole. If you’re careful you won’t drive the end of your small pointy
tool into the top of the table.
The circle-end of the new spring should be just a little too big to go
into the hole; it will be a press-fit. Slide the straight section near the base
of the spring into the slot between the hole and the shaft of the scissor-arm
and start the circle at an angle partway in the hole, starting with the opening
in the circle. Hold it in this position with a pliers and squeeze as you
rock the pliers and spring into line."   (with photo)

The only tools ive used to swap spring is my vic huntsman.  Awl to push out old spring, and then the side of a big tool like the bottle opener to push the new spring home with.  Pliers would likely be easier though.

I would love to, but will Neil ship to Singapore? Not sure if the shipping cost is going to be expensive.

His shipping is very reasonable and he ships most places. Why not send him a PM here and ask for a shipping quote.
