I have never had a problem with heights.  My mother used to give me hell for climbing very high into trees when I was very little.  I do have a problem with climbing man made things though.  Man made things have a tendency to break and or fall over.  You wouldnt find me climbing cranes in france but climbing a rock face is no problem whatsoever.

Screw that!  It's a good thing 'ol pull-up boy didn't get sweaty palms!

I feel pretty secure climbing with equipment, but those crane pull-ups are sheer insanity.

Repelling is fun. I did it in the Army during basic training. Our CO knew someone higher up over at the Ranger Battalion at Ft. Benning and they let us do it. Of course since it wasn't "official" training those who didn't want to weren't forced to do it. However, they DID do PT all day. Did you do the wall or a helicopter pad or both? The tower I was on had both. I liked the helicopter pad better. God bless the Infantry!!!  :salute:

I'd planned on making the Army my career. Airborne, Air Assault, Ranger, etc etc but I shattered my ankle pretty soon after I arrived at my 1st duty post. We were in the field at Hohenfels Germany and I was carrying a 50lb bag of MILES gear to the motorpool and I slipped on some ice. Needless to say my career in the Infantry was over. They offered to train me in another MOS but I didn't want to be a REMF so I was eventually medically discharged.

The one thing I wanted to be since I was 12 was a Marine. EVERY male in my family has done his time in the Corp. Up until the present generation. My brothers son joined the Army :ahhh

However.. I followed my Fathers career. He was a member of the First Raider Bat. and I just had to go Recon.

I just however hated being a LEO. And quit that about 8 years ago.

I debated between the Army and Marines. I knew I wanted Infantry so I knew either way I'd get to do the cool stuff. The deciding factor was the Army offered me a bigger cash bonus. Which I promptly spent on booze and easy women.

Nothing wrong with any branch as far as I can tell. My Nephew spent 1 year at Getmo as a prison guard, and is now in Liguistics school to learn Arabic. His plan is to go work for the Govt. after he gets out.

I'm not afraid of heights, just don't care much for them. This has never kept me from doing things like rock climbing, getting up on scaffolding, working on roof tops, etc. I think it bothers me more watching people up high then actually being there myself and having something to concentrate on besides the height.
