Finally got to use the wire stripper!
on: April 14, 2012, 01:59:04 AM
I had to repair one of those electric dog fences today and needed to strip several wires to link together.  I brought my Pioneer and quickly saw that using the wire stripper notch was much easier than trying to use the blade.  I always thought the notch was kind of a gimmick, but I worked great.  Only took a minute or two to figure out how to use it properly.
SAK saves the day.

Why does this monumental history making post have only 53 views and no comments?

I say 'Well done Sir' for making use of the least used tool in the SAK arsenal.

Well I have to say that I've never used it myself, so well done indeed Tyler. :hatsoff:

As an electrical guy who doesn't camp, I use it a lot more often than the can opener.

I deal with thicker wire with tough insulation, so I always cut a ring around it with the knife blade first. It can actually be pretty quick, if I keep both implements open at once. ;)

I've always had more success using the blade than the notch.  Good job on successfully using it!

So what is the best way to use the notch to strip wire? I dimly recall using it a long time ago, but do not recall how I used it. Fading memory.  :( I do know it can also be useful for bending wire. Trying to bend a large paperclip to make a right angle bend in it just now though has not proven initially successful. It bent but the end is too long for some improvised tool uses including picking a simple lock, such as on a briefcase I had to open for somebody once or a box I have with a lock for which I can never seem to locate the key. I always keep trying a few small keys and end up using a paperclip.
