I wouldn't part with the saw on my Charge. It came in handy on a trek in the forest, when I spied upon the perfect wood for a walking stick; a dry-cured black spruce sapling with the perfect curve for a handle.  If I hadn't had the Charge saw, I couldn't have cut through such a wood of legendary strength.  The Spruce Goose wasn't made out of mahogany, after all...

So would you part with the file instead, or the serrated blade?  Just curious.  It's interesting to hear different ideas and uses we all have :)  If I were hiking in the woods or anything of that nature, I would also be carrying my Colombian sawback machete.  In most other everyday situations, I don't need a saw on me, but I know that there could be a situation where a saw could unexpectedly come in handy.

Good question. If I chose my multitool based only on what I expect, I wouldn't be as well-prepared for the unexpected.  The need for a saw at that moment was unexpected, but much appreciated.  Today, I had a crusty baguette  for lunch, and the only thing I could cut it with was the serrated blade on my Charge.  I also hope to have it handy if I am ever trapped by my seatbelt in a drowning or burning wreck.

I try to cover off all possibilities by carrying both the Juice and the Charge.  The scissors on the Juice are superior, it's handier to access, and the pliers are smaller for delicate work.  For bigger tasks, I prefer the locking blades of the Charge.

I suppose if I had to give something up on the Charge, it would be the file, as I have one on the Juice, which is smaller, but with a file, size doesn't matter as much.  And I can't think of an urgent need for a file; it's usually for a minor fix of some kind.

I try to do that too, and sometimes it is hard to make a decision   I typically carry a full size multitool and a SAK (or two :D) or the Juice S2.  I figure most unexpected situations will be covered that way, same as you.  It's easier to just pull out the SAK or Juice to handle most simple everyday tasks, but I like knowing I have stronger, locking tools available if necessary.

Good point about the file though.  I can't think of any emergency type use for it.

I used the PST II scissors to cut up some old raggedy towels into rags.  Love that PST :D :multi:

today I used the Phillips driver in my Original Wave to disconnect the battery of my YXF600R after smoke and a burning smell started coming out from under the tank.  :ahhh

I trailered the bike home but haven't been game to take the tank off and look yet.

Typical abusive day for the poor Surge. Cutting layout template out of cardboard with the knife wasn't bad, but the awl probably didn't like being used to scrape hardened epoxy out of hilti bolt threads, and I bent the heck out of the saw blade trying to cut a keyhole in the base of a temporary plywood wall in order to run a measuring tape through it.

Play & cut myself *sigh*

I drew first blood with my charge tti while cutting zip ties. I also crimped a butt connector, and cut open some product boxes.

Used the tip of the PST's can opener to clean under my nails.  Actually doesn't do a bad job.

I used my PST II's phillips and large flathead to assemble a baby bouncer seat and the crib.  The crib's bolts were allen's head, but the barrel nuts into which the bolts had to be housed required the flathead to keep them lined up correctly.

While using the phillips on the bouncer seat though, it closed on me a couple times, and without a lot of force either.  The handles themselves even opened up some when this would happen.  That's the one big downside to non-locking tools and ,unfortunately, why the PST won't get lots of use for screwdriver jobs.  It is still good for other things though.  It's not a big deal though, as I really didn't plan on using it too much anyway as I don't want to cause any damage or wear on it.

I still love it though :D

Nail clipper works great for zip ties.

If you want to do screwdriver jobs with a PST you could get yourself a LM tool adapter,  they made one that works very well with a PST (the original version with two tangs, not the later "Universal tool adapter" with no tangs).  Then you can use any std 1/4" hex bits.

Thanks for the tip - I was using my surge today and because they were in a fairly tight spot it was difficult to get the plier cutting blades into the cable tie, I ended up using the PE blade to cut off the excess. Nail clippers would have been much better for this task.

So now I have a question, do any MTs come with decent nail clippers ?  Preferably plier based, but I will get a knife based tool if I have to.

I said this elsewhere, but better for cutting zip ties than a nail-clipper, if you have it, is a side-cutter.  Unfortunately, few multi tools that I've seen have a side cutter as an attachment.  It would be very handy for someone who cuts zip-ties frequently.

Thanks for the info :salute:  I will have to look into that.

Today I used the PST II's knife blade to cut up a bunch of cardboard left over from the baby crib and bouncer seat I assembled yesterday.  It was very sharp and worked very well, even on the tip of my thumb :-[

I used the PST II's pliers to break up a plastic hanger that had broken and was no longer usable.  Also used the Rebar's wire cutters to cut some wire that was holding some fake flowers together on a "bouquet" made for my wife's baby shower at work.

I used the pliers on two Leatherman tools, a new Wave and a Blast too straighten the slightly bent corkscrew on a vintage Victorinox Rainier (partially serrated blade).

I used the Wave pliers to hold the base of the corkscrew and the Blast pliers to gently bend the top of the corkscrew slightly to one side so it cleared the liner better.

Is there a prize for using multi tools to fix other multi tools?

Back to the fence. Got home and the dog was out. Fencing came off post. Twisted some wire around a post with my Sidekick.

Well this story is actually from yesterday, but I didn't get the chance to get on here last night.

While I was delivering some supplies to the main office here at work, the UPS guy drove in to pick up any packages and whatnot from the dropoff box.  As I was exiting the building, he asked me if I had a phillips screwdriver in the truck he'd seen me unloading from.  There are no tools in that company vehicle, so I happily replied, "No, but I have one on me."  He asked, "Oh, you have a Leatherman on you?"  To which I proudly replied, "Yes I do."

So I reached into my back pocket, pulled out my Rebar, got the phillips screwdriver out and handed it to him.  He needed to remove the lock from the dropoff box as it had been broken for some time and no other driver had bothered to fix it.  He mentioned that he normally has a Leatherman on him, but had forgotten it that day.  Let that be a lesson learned, do not forget your multitool(s) each morning :D

I just used the Juice CS4's pliers to pull a slippery headphone plug out of the headphone jack of my husband's phone. Any small plier would have worked, but the Juice was nearest to hand.

Used my S2 to hold grill burner parts while I used a Dremel barrel grinder to clean them up prior to using Loktite to put them back together.

This wasn't today; it was over 10 years ago in fact, but here's what happened:
I had left a cast iron frypan on the stove for a bit too long, and when I came back is fully engulfed in flame.  The handle was too hot, I didn't have a potholder handy, so I whipped out my Leatherman, and used the pliers to carry the flaming pan to the sink. It also set the curtains on fire, so I ripped them down also. I was able to eventually douse the flames, and then I used the Leatherman again to put up new curtains. I only had a few minor burns on my hands to deal with.

Replaced a mobile cellphone booster today. I didn't realize they become obsolete along with the phones.  Someone had zip-tied the wires very securely under the seat with big thick zip-ties.  If there was ever a time I wished for side-cutters it was today.  I could only cut them by feel, and I had to use my Juice knife. Very scary indeed.

I used my wingman wire cutters to break off a pair of metal zipper pulls on a small utility pouch. They jingled with movement, really annoying. Then I used the needle nose pliers to pull some paracord through and knotted them as new zipper pulls. No more noise with movement. :D

Took apart a lighting control board with my S2. I had to clean the sliders out with some canned air.
