Well, it's official. I am now the proud owner of a SURGE!!! Man what a beefy multi. Though honestly I don't find it as big and heavy as a lot of people do, I don't see any problem using it for EDC. I can understand why some people may not want to, but I'll be keeping it on my belt at all times that's for sure. Functionally it appears perfect so far. Haven't had a chance to really use it yet. I'm just glad the damned blade locks actually work. Only issue is the bolsters at the bottom where the pivots are are bolted on kinda crooked. One is way off actually, but it doesn't actually affect anything so who cares. Perhaps someday I'll grab myself a couple security bits and fix it if I get bored. I'm happy to report no rattles either. It's silent as can be. Only thing that sucks is the nylon sheath ripped the first time I tried putting it on my belt. The loop ripped off. At first I was kinda puissed till I realized that it fits perfectly fine in my Charge nylon sheath. It's a bit tight closing the flap, but it works out fine. I was a little worried that it would be too slippery and hard to grip. In all the pictures it looks way overpolished just like my Wave is. I drop my (new) Wave all the time because it's so damned slippery, but not a problem with SURGE!. It's finish is a lot more subdued and I can grip it just fine. Can't wait to start putting it through it's paces.

Hey! mine's not rattly at all

I've used it a bit and yes I do like it. Better than my Wave and Charge. Maybe it's just me, but I actually find it more comfortable to use. Maybe because it is big and it doesn't feel like it's going to slip through my long ass fingers. Besides, I'm the type to be more concerned with functionality. The SURGE!!! has functionality in spades. Carried it in a holster with the extra blade and a full bit card, right next to my SOG Vulcan residing in a sheath of it's own, and it didn't weigh me down one bit. I honestly didn't even notice it, and for once I didn't feel like I was "missing" a tool that I may wind up needing. Now I just need to decide on what Flashlight I'm going to buy as my EDC and I'll be all set.

Depending on the size you want I would go with Inova. They have the X1 and X5 that are great EDC lights. The X1 runs of 1AA battery and is decently bright! While the X5 runs of two cr123's and it has 5 LED's, oit is also much larger! I would go with the X1!

I've looked at Inovas, but I actually want something more powerful. I'm just like that. Gotta up the boost on my car, overclock my computer, have the sharpest knife at work, biggest multitool Leatherman makes, have the brightest flashlight on the block... lol. Right now I leaning towards a Fenix T1, but I've been looking at the Nitecore Defender Infinity a lot too. Though i haven't ruled out Surefire or Inova yet either.

I really like the look of the T1.

I have the P1D fitted with the Q5 and it is ruddy bright. It still doesn't get used anywhere near as much as my Streamlight Sidewinder though.

Get yourself a nice 1 mode 20-40 lumen led light for EDC. Push button - light on. Push button - light off. No bulbs to burn out. Simple is the way to go on a light that will be used. SOS and Strobe? Come on. Also on an EDC I'd say go with CR123 batteries. This way if the light rides around with you for a couple of months without use you won't have to worry about a battery leaking and trashing your nice light. The T1 is a great light but for me is way to BRIGHT for EDC. Of course your needs might require a ultra powerful pocket thrower.

I've had quite a few lights but still seem to carry a Surefire E1L everyday I leave the house. Of course Surefire messed up this great light buy making it multi-mode this year.

Sorry guess I should write !!SURGE!!! in here somewhere to kind of stay on topic. Ohh I guess I just did.

I do actually have a Fenix L0D for the small stuff. I'm looking for something bigger and badder for the rest. I spent most of the day doing my homework on different lights. So many that have their own pros and con's. I can see why people on CPF have so many. It's damned near impossible to choose one. After looking at the Inova T series, Surefire 6P LED and G2 LED, Streamlight, Nitecore, and JETBeam all day long, I'm still leaning back toward the Fenix T1. I agree that the CR123's would be nice for the reason you stated, and since most good 123 lights that appeal to me are similar in size and weight, etc, I may as well just get the brightest/ most powerful one I can afford. I honestly think there are others that would be a bit nicer for EDC like the Fenix P3D and a couple others, but I want Off, On, and maybe 1 or 3 brightness levels. I don't need 30 output levels, strobes, etc. So it looks like I'll be setting aside some cash for a T1. Oh, and SURGE!!!! rules!

A fellow I work with has a T1 it's a very nice light. Bright as a mother on turbo mode.

I love tools and I tend to expect different performance from different tools. For example I may buy a cheap masonry chisel if I'm just going to abuse it, and I buy sacrificial screwdriver sets for various reasons to spare my good ones some abuse. I buy cheap chinese Leatherman knockoffs for my vehicle glove boxes and tackle boxes. When I buy a Leatherman tool or any tool that I expect quality from however I demand that it have the fit and finish deserving of the name it carries. Even the smallest imperfection would bother me enough to write a letter and return for a replacement. I'd write a letter saying that this one must have slipped through the cracks, I expect more from the Leatherman name I've been buying all these years.

Congratulations on your new acquisition though.

While I see your point, and it does kinda bug me, it isn't enough for me to deal with sending it back, being without it for a while, getting a new/refurbed/ maybe get my fixed one back. Especially when it is purely cosmetic, and for what it would cost to ship, buying the security bits and doing it myself would probably cost the same, and then I'm not without the tool for X amount of time. The important part is that the tool is functionally perfect.

The first thing to learn about Big Company X is that "shipping" is kind of like an "Administration Fee" - it exists purely so they can take it away.

Complain long enough and loud enough, and they'll pay for pick up and delivery.

Being a member of this forum can only help, as Def has done the leg work of making this a respected place for fair treatment of multitools, and with various online salesmen and whatnot here, not a great place to earn yourself a bad name as a brand eh.

I'm not recommending you be a dick about it, I'm just saying the option is there.
