Ranger 51
on: February 09, 2008, 08:27:55 AM
I saw a Ranger 51 today ($45 Au)

Sweet mother of Stainless that is a pretty knife, and at that price, it beats the goddamn trousers off of any Spyderco buys I was considering.

It's possibly a bit intimidating for general carry, but It'd go right nice in my toolbox or office desk drawer.

Yes this deserves it's own topic.

(A nice Red Handled Vic one handed on the 111mm wouldn't go astray either)

I am adverse to buying stuff.

It's kind of like after you see how Sausages are made...

This topic rather follows on from my Solo one as regards to SAKs as straight folders.

I have several of the Ranger models, and let me tell you, they are indeed a pleasure to hold and use.  I don't have the 51, but I do have a 57, 58 and Alinghi model, with more to come!

The 51 is beautiful in it's simplicity and design. If you want a top-notch OH Solo lockblade the 51 is perfect. I also have the Victorinox OH Solos on the way as well. They are both excellent knives. For me the nod will go to the 51 when it comes out with the ergonomic pocket clip in a few months.  :climber:

I've still never seen a One-handed Vic in the flesh.

Not quite, although I suppose it's relative.

The OHT debuted in '03 alongside the OH GAK as the civilian version of the German Army Issue knife which also went into service that year.

If you're referring to the OH Solo (Vic calls it One-Blade) then no one has yet touched one (well maybe but only recently are they going to dealers) other than at the SHOT Show where I was duly impressed. My order is in for them. Till now if you wanted a OH Solo, Scibeer was where you went. Still is if you want special features like custom scales, etc.

Why would this be intimidating to carry??????

Looks like a great knife.  Now you have me looking to buy one!  Thanks! :D
