Ultimate Rebar n00b question: my Rebar feels really stiff in the pliers.
I tried to oil them = no difference
Been opening and closing them repeatedly = no difference

Is this how they are supposed to be or do they have a break-in period?

Worry not, it will break in. For me it took a weekend of fidgeting with it, since then it's smooth and loose in a good way, opening-closing is completely effortless. Just keep at it.

Mine just seem unusually stiff. I’ll try to make a video of what I mean..

Try WD40 on pliers or cleaner then just open and shut pliers and there might come some dirt between pliers. Other option is try cover whole tool in wd40 or breakcleaner to and leave it to few hours or overnight to get best result, there shouldnt be such stifness on pliers like it shows on your vid

Yeah, works fine  :tu:
My Rebar pliers were far stiffer than that when I got it!! I had to get the grinding paste on them!
Absolutely fine now......

Well i see nothing strange in the vid. I would say it is almost perfect.
It will take a week or so to break in. Mine is now buttersmooth for the feeling, but sillt stay put where i leave it.
Even my surge which was a real pita to open the yaws the first few days now is completely loose and can even be moved arround  with a feather. (Maybe too loose? )
But my wave never became that loose even after 5 years of hard duty.....still stays put in the position i put it in.

The stiffness on the video seems/is perfectly normal, and it will break in.

Also, one tip I forgot to mention yesterday: IF the pliers stick when completely closed, you may want to have a look at the cutters' alignment, the tiniest adjustment can mean a huge difference, just loosen the screws, move the cutter blades a hair and see if it's better.

Just to update; You guys were 100% correct by the way.

Been using my Rebar all day, everything from servicing my farther in law’s van to fixing the kitchen sink, and tons of other bits and bobs here and there, and it’s a lot better now.

A lot easier and smoother now
