Thanks Poncho65.

I realized reading all the Rebar threads that the tool “wobble” was a common problem reported by users, so I took a closer look at the geometry of the locking system under a magnifier.

I could see that the culprit was play in the lock tab pin holes. It was easy to see that the pin could move forward and back in the hole, enough to allow the tool to rotate slightly on the pivot when locked open.

What’s nice about my ‘fix’ is that there’s no modification to the Rebar. The brass bushing is pressed into the hole from the inside (so it does not fall out), filed down almost completely so the lever can be re-installed without binding on the bushing. Then I simple ground down the remaining part of the tube to be flush with the handle.

All the tools now lock completely solidly, and still deploy smoothly with no issues. Just the casting of the lock recess of the Phillips is a little wide, so there’s still a tiny bit of play, but nothing like it was.

I suspect that LM leave some tolerance to allow for tolerance variations as there are 3 pieces of metal that must align perfectly to lock a tool.

The brass bushings I used are known as ferrules, used inside a rubber grommet to mount RC servos. Pic below.

So the challenge is to see if other Rebar owners are up to the challenge of this fix?

Kind regards, Max

I really don't have much wobble in mine  need to check them more closely though  it is a good idea to reduce tolerances  :salute: the bushings you used being a softer metal will also allow for enough play that they won't break if something is off with the lock pins

I may be working on a holster for the Rebar sometime in the next few months.
For now I made a 3D model and rendering. The model is the closed external parts only.
