I don't like the lanyard loop either.  I don't use them on any of my multitools.

It also fits very nice in the coin pocket. One of the reasons I love it is because of how compact it is. I've even carried it in sweat pants with very little hassle

I picked up a rebar last week and it's my new EDC and I'm quite happy with it.  It's replacing a swiss tool spirit x that was lost or stolen from my workplace.  I'm happy to be carrying a LM again, I feel like I've been missing out.  A few years back a had a Wave that I gave away to a friend in need.  It's good to be back!

I got my BO version several years ago when it first came out. It's priced well, sturdy, reliable, and all comes in a very small package compared to most leatherman tools. The only downside is that it doesn't have the replaceable bits, but that is solved with a bit adapter. I just wish leatherman would stop using proprietary screws and start selling their parts individually.

Just got my Rebar in the mail today. (Bought myself an early birthday present.)

I've owned a Micra for about 15 years (love it), but this is my first real Leatherman.  I've always been an SAK guy.  I got it for $37 shipped off Ebay, new with sheath. (No box or packaging, but I trust the seller and the thing looks new. No scratches, dents, shearing on drivers, the knife edges looks untouched, etc.)

Some preliminary thoughts:

1. Boy is this thing stiff.  I guess I was expecting the buttery smoothness of an SAK, which wasn't a fair expectation.  Everything is super tight, but some oil has helped.  I'm sure it will loosen up with time.  The pivot almost feels, gritty, for lack of a better word.  Is this from the finish on the tools and lack of spacers compared to an SAK?  Are the pivot screws just too tight? I don't want to mess with them...

2. It is a real beauty.  I love the clean PST-like aesthetic with all the tools on the inside.  I don't care about one-handed open or outside access, I always have an SAK nearby.  I like the clean look.

3.  I am shocked out how light this thing feels, and how compact it is.  Despite knowing the exact dimensions, I somehow expected something heavier and bigger.  It is beautiful and feels great in the hands.

4. More flex in the plier handles than I expected from moderate force.

5. I've seen a lot of people bemoan the lack of scissors. I always have a Vic classic on me, so I don't mind that much, I prefer the awl.

6. Love the 3d phillips.

7. The Rebar's drivers actually have decently slim and long shanks on them, which many multi-tool drivers don't. I love this.

8. This a wicked file and puts everything I've had on an SAK to shame.

Overall I like it a lot.  I've always been an SAK afficionado, but can definitely feel the beginnings of a Leatherman love affair that I am not sure I can afford!

Thanks for the warm welcome guys.

One thing I noticed....the tang on the knives has a little tab that engages the lock mechanism when you open them.  It makes it so the knives have a satisfying "snap" back into the handles when you close them.  The file and saw don't have these tabs and are held in the handle with friction.   Do you guys have any idea why the difference?  (I like the snap personally.)

Googling, I found this pic.  You see the difference in the tangs, the knife has that tab on the back. I wish the saw did!

The tab acts like a detent to keep the blades in the handle. Maybe they thought the saw was light enough to not need it. Welcome to the club mate.

Finally had an opportunity to try out the Rebar can opener.  It exceeded expectations!  I thought it looked kind of dull but it tore through the can with ease.   :multi:

I share your enthusiasm for the Rebar. IMO, it is the perfect full-sized EDC and given the other items I carry (Style CS + Rambler), I can forgive it for not having scissors. The only thing that can match it would be a PST.

I am very careful to keep my new Rebar dry and already it is developing tiny rust spots on some of the blades!  I don't understand.   ???

I didn't like it at first either, Monrogue.

Here's what changed my mind: A pocket hanger!

Try making one out of a pice of paracord or other small diameter nylon rope.

Hang it from your belt so that it hangs vertically in the back of your pocket; instead of falling awkwardly into a sideways lump in the bottom of your pocket.

This moves not only the shape of it vertical and to the back of the pocket, but it also moves the weight of it to your belt, rather than the pocket liner!

It's shown with a 4-layer SAK, but I assure you that it works equally well with a Rebar.

Thanks for the suggestion Smaug :salute:  I actually have a couple of those paracord hangers.  I typically carry my MTs in my back pocket next to my wallet though.  However, that doesn't work well in my jeans as the back pocket isn't as roomy as my work attire.  This would actually be a good solution to that problem.  Once I can regain possession of them (currently in storage with much of my stuff), I may try this out on our "dress down" days at work :tu:

First time Rebar owner here! I found it funny that I had to use a Sidekick to open up the package.

Anyway, I think I'll be using the leather pouch at the moment as the landyard loop is in the same section of the knife.  I'm bound to close it when I'll use the knife so it's an extra action if I'll hang the Rebar off an "S-carabiner".

I guess I was correct in saying that the Rebar's smooth exterior makes it less hot on the eyes than say, my Sidekick which gives the vibe of knife first before pliers, versus Rebar of pliers first before knife.  People here aren't too comfortable here if they see you with a folding knife or something resembling it.

Oh, I like it that it resembles my Micra :P  Must be the same family tree  :multi:

I'm after the removable bit driver just to add more flexibility to the tool :)
http://www.multitool.org/reviews/leatherman/accessories/48-removable-bit-driver.html

Off to EDC and run some tests on it!
