So... after getting yet another new phone a few weeks ago, my wife requested that I go through and make a list of all the cell phones I've had in the last 10 years (since I started carrying a phone essentially) and this is what I came up with.

I don't remember my first, it was a come-with-the-contract POS.

I currently have a Pantech Breeze... free upgrade from my previous come-with-contract POS.

A friend gave me an old iPhone 3G. I don't use it as a phone, just use it for wifi web browsing and as an ipod.

I just buy a new phone when my phone dies or becomes too damaged to work properly.. Never felt the need to upgrade from a working phone.

I`ve had two phones in the last ten years. I only talk on a phone so my only need is it gets good reception as I live a long ways from the tower.

Mostly.  Two have been on contract upgrades.

It's been less expensive than you would think - I mostly buy used and sell the phones when I move on.  It's for the most part self-supporting.  Some phones I have sold for quite a substantial profit because I've gotten them so cheaply.

I was an early adopter of the Pocket PC concept.  The early Casios and Ipaqs weren't really up to primetime.  As phones got more sophisticated, I upgraded looking for the unit that did what the Pocket PC was supposed to.

My HTC Touch2 was the first phone that really got to that level. The touchscreen just sucked but the programming was very good. 

I've been very pleased with my Droid2Global and will probably stick with a physical keyboard smartphone next time around too.
