Hello!
Does anybody know how many models Wenger made with the Buffalo horn scales?
Untill now, I was able to grab only these:

Top: Esquire 1 92 80
Bottom Left: Commander 1 92 81
Bottom Right: Traveler 1 92 82

I searched everywhere but was not able to find any information about any other model with these scales.

Very nice!  Don't know how many Wenger ones there are, but maybe next time Karl or Stressmaster are on-line you might get a better answer.  I don't think I've seen any others besides those ones you're showing, but there almost certainly must be additional ones.

Hello,
thanks both for you messages.
I really hope someone could share more light on these knives.
Assuming that Wenger created a serie similar to the "Europe" one, there should be at least one more knife (the last one from the Europe serie, being the aluminum scales version)

While searching the web, I came across the above pictures, plus some of the Wenger with buffalo horn

The name of every picture was the catalog number.
I added these numbers to the above pictures with the horn scales.
Interesting is that the last picture has a different catalog number (the "A"---Savanna????)
Unfortunately the 1 92 82 model is not shown with all the tools in opened position, but according to the catalog number should be the Traveler.
The only difference I see between my Traveler (1 92 82) and the one shown above (1 92 82 A), is that the latter has the nail file with with the textured finish facing the opposite side.

Well I am still after a Wenger Esquire in Horn. You have more info than I have ever seen on the Wenger Horn models. Maybe Karl will chime in later on as he has a very good and large Wenger collection.

Update.
Found a reference in a dealer's catalog from 1992-1995 time period (I suppose).
I believe the three models from my first message where the only ones made with the horn scales.

The only recent Wengers with horn handles that I'm familiar with are the three Savanna (or Savana) series. Basically an Esquire, Commander and Traveler. I have an Esquire and two of the Commanders, but have never been able to find a horn Traveler.

I have one older Wenger with horn handles (photo 2), so they did produce some, but they are not nearly as common as horn-handles Victorinox.

I believe 'Star' was a term Wenger used for a number of its fancy series, including the Savannas, Dynastys and Europas. May have been primarily a European trade name.

Of course I don't.
I was finally able to get a copy of the 1995 (almost) full dealer's catalog (it is around 65 pages).
Would it be better for the wiki to have it in pdf format or as jpg's?

Karl,
thank you for your message.
In the catalog I have the "Star" name is used for the following series:
Diplomate (seems like the Dynastys)
Metal
Europe
Macao
Savana
The Wood Collection
Swiss Cigar Knife
I will try to upload the catalog as soon as I can

Right now JPG work best for SAKwiki, but I'm sure others would love it if you posted a PDF as well.

I'll post the Savana pages shortly.  Right now I'll just drop them in the Catalog pages gallery, and work out linking to them later.

Really looking forward to that 1995 catalog.

Thanks!

Ok,
the 1995 catalog is online as jpg (hi res)
https://picasaweb.google.com/carlomoreschi/Wenger_Europe_1995_catalog?authuser=0&authkey=Gv1sRgCKuiiKOwxZcp&feat=directlink

A pdf version was also sent to ICanFixThat

Unfortunately the catalog is not 100% complete, but only few pages are missing.
Remember that this catalog was for the European market, so many models were not available in the US.

Please save everything in the wiki, so that I can remove the pictures from picasa.

Awesome!  Super excellent catalog!  So the savana pages are in there as well so would that make them also from 1995?

Yes, the Savana pages are from the same catalog.
There is no date on it, but I suspect it is from 1992-1995, because:
1) on photo 13 there is a newspaper picture in the background from 1992;
2) there was already a picture of the same catalog (photo 48) on the wiki
http://www.sakwiki.com/tiki-browse_image.php?imageId=2013, with a 1995 date

Basilio,

Thanks for the catalog. Thanks also for clearing up what was covered by the 'Star' name. Diplomate was the European name; Dynasty was the American name for the same series.

Karl

OK Thanks for the clarification.

I see the pages are actually from various dates. See the small print on the upper right of the page.

You will see that some pages are printed in 1993, some 94, some 95.  So actually this material dates from 1993-95 based on printed dates and is not from a single catalog, but a collection of dealer sheats.  The range of 92-95 is probably very accurate for all the material, since  not all of it is dated.  I will use the date range to describe this material and make specific notes of the dates where available.

Thanks again!

Posted on SAKwiki 1992-1995 European Dealer Catalog Information (French)

Thanks again for getting this information and sharing it.  :salute:

This is a motherload of information given that Wenger information is sparse.
