Alox model name?
on: July 15, 2012, 08:41:39 PM
I'm looking for an alox First Mate, without the woodsaw.
(so just the screwdriver, pruner, blade and marlinspike)

My question is: how is this model named and numbered? Is it non-existing?

Tnx

Pioneer Marlinspike. There was a limited run of 100 in green alox. I don't know if other variants were made.

Thanks guys  :)

So it is out there, but green just isn't my color. Blue or silver alox would do.

It looks like a nice leatherworking tool or ropeworking. Pruner for cutting curves in leather and cutting paracord, spike for lacing and braiding.

If you can find any marlinspike model I can make you one with torx pins or maybe syph can make it with the natural silver HA finish on the scales. With the titanium liners, stainless pins and that extra hard anodizing it would stand up to salt water much better than the stock versions.

Edit: I just read that you want it for leatherworking. Maybe a standard awl with a hole drilled and polished smooth for lacing? That spike looks like it would punch some huge holes in leather.

Thanks for your ideas. I do have one with marlinspike, but it has no pruner. I might buy the Rancher used, and try to pin them together. It's gonna be a user in my toolbox, like to keep it cheap.  I have several sharp awls for punching holes in leather, so no need for that.

I was suggesting a First Mate as it has all the tools that you need, including the ring omission, just with the saw added, then I read again the original post.

IMHO, I would use a First Mate. If not, I would get one of the green Ranchers from Tim, which at the moment would be the best deal in terms of new SAKs with the marlin spike, and consider modding that (removing the anodizing and the ring holder, maybe replacing with some of that nice hard anodizing from Siph).
