Very reliable car.

They are very reliable.  Mine is a '95 and has done 118k miles and it is still pretty smooth and pulls well.  Being a 2 litre V6 though it does guzzle petrol a bit.

I had an '89 model, rebranded as the GMC Tracker.  It was great.  340,000 kms and we replaced the original clutch!  Those little sewing machines live forever!

2 litre?  I'd be in heaven.  The 4 litre inline six in my Jeep XJ guzzles it like there's no tomorrow.

You probably wouldn't be in heaven driving it over here though.  Fuel has just gone up to £1.05 a litre.  >:(

Yeah but those 4.0 Jeep engines will last almost forever. Kinda like the old 300ci(4.9 liter) Ford inline 6. Or the (in)famous Slant-Six of the old Dodge's.

Very true, and that's why I own one.  I know several guys with XJs that have over 250,000 miles on them.

I personally have put over 200,000 on a couple 300ci Fords (F-150 & Bronco).  That is one hell of an engine.

I'm a Ford guy too, BTW.  My father has been selling them for 50 years.

Hey, even the 40-year-old 289 in my Bronco (never rebuilt) has 185,000 on it.  Here's a nice shot of the 'ol 289:

Right now I have a 2002 Ford Focus station wagon, the one the tree fell on, and a 1998 Ford Taurus(well it's the wife's car). The Taurus has the 3.0 Duratec DOHC engine in it rated at 200 hp. Not a race car by any stretch of the imagination but it'll fly up and down these Ozark hills without a problem. It'll also hit 100 MPH pretty easily.

My Focus isn't quite so fast:D but if you don't have the air conditioner on it's OK if you're going downhill. I have to admit it's been a hell of a car though. I'm hard on cars and she keeps plugging away. It's also like a billygoat on snowy roads. And I'm amazed at how good the factory stereo sounds in it.

I know what you mean about the Focus.  I have a 2001 ZX3 with the Zetec 16 valve 2.0 in it.  It's not the most powerful thing in the world, but I've been impressed with how oil-tight the engine is, and the durability of the car in general.  It has 80,000 miles on it and doesn't burn a drop of oil between 5000-6000-mile oil changes.  I've had the used oil analyzed, and it's very clean.  It's been a great car.

Mine hits the 108 MPH speed limiter without too much fuss.   :police:

As long as you kept oil in a 300 6' from Ford they would run forever.I could not beleive when Ford dropped the engine and the 302 as well.
