Often driven past the ruins of Freienstein and each time I decided to take a closer look. Today I did it.

Unfortunately there is only a remnant of the tower. In 1806 a large part of the castle was demolished in order to build this bridge.

Alox Classic outdoors in Miller Park, Preston. One of two Victorian Parks (the other being Avenham Park) that stand side by side, to the point where people often think they're the same park.

@Echotech: Nice knife! Fits great with the green landscape. I get in a summer mood just looking at the pictures.
Here in Switzerland , maybe everywhere in Europe, everyone is looking forward to spring.

@ Michael: What a beautiful, well-kept park on the ribble. I feel like strolling there.  :dd:

Thanks Sneider :tu:

Autumn is in the air here and I’m sure spring is very much looked forward to in the northern hemisphere.

What I really like about this thread is the little bit of history or local knowledge everyone includes with their pics :like:

One of my fave country pubs, Wollombi Tavern in the Hunter Valley …great burgers :D

It's a lovely place to walk through. It's where I currently get my weekend exercise in these Covid times.

That looks like a great pub! When I eventually get out to Sydney I'll have to try and persuade someone to drive me out there.

I've got to try Dr Jurd's at some point, though. It looks like the Aussie equivalent to Buckfast. :ahhh

Be good to see you out here Michael, I’m sure we’d find a way to get you to Wollombi :D
Dr Jurds is only available from this one pub but lots of people have a bottle in the back of the cupboard, it’s a little raw!

The photos don’t really do the pub justice, there’s a big beer garden out the back and until the 90’s was still all dirt roads. Very busy on weekends, great trip on a motorbike

The Hunter Valley is a premier wine growing area and definitely a great place to visit :drink:

Beautiful pictures gentlemen .

I thank all of you for your input here, I appreciate it very much, you guys keep my humble topic going.

Thank you  :hatsoff:.

I'm working the late shift this week, so time to visit, let alone post something on MTO is very rare.  But tomorrow is the last day of work this week, so I hope I can post some pics here by tomorrow evening. I've already uploaded some pics of these last weeks on my imgur account, so that's half the job done.

Hopefully I can find the energy to post them here tomorrow, work has been very busy and stressful, and I've been faling asleep as soon as dragged myself from the shower to the couch these past 3 weeks or so...

Anyway, loving those beautiful pics and all the background information you guys share here  :tu:.

Keep them coming my friends.

Greetings from Belgium,

Eric  :salute:.

It's a long term plan, although Covid has made a slight mess of it; I intended to come out for the Ashes at the end of this year and do Brisbane and Adelaide, then in four years time do Melbourne and Sydney (I've already done the WACA in Perth). As it is, I might end up only being able to do Perth again as I know I'll be guaranteed to get tickets; it depends on the world situation and how generous work are feeling. ::)

Dr Jurd's does look interesting. I've been having a nosey on the pub's website - I think I'd take advantage of a free sample and then settle in with a Tooheys New and Old as they're the only two they list that I've not tried before.

I would probably have to bring a bottle of Dr Jurd's back to share round a local pub with a couple of mates, though. :drink:

Okay, a bit later than expected...

But here are some pics from last month or so.

I'll start with the "oldest" ones, when we had a couple of days of snow here (at least 2 or 3 centimeter  :o).

And some family pics, our little girl enjoying a ride on the sled for the first time.

Here's our oldest son, pulling the sled.

Here's yours truly giving here a push from a small slope...

And what watch was I wearing?  My trusty Mudmaster  :D.

And two weeks later, we had a preview from spring, with some nice sunny days, with temperatures reaching 18°c.

Same location/day, different knife:

And last week we went on a walk next to the local river "Nete".

And a pic from the "floodlands" next to the river:

Let’s hope the Barmy Army are allowed over Michael, currently all of our borders are closed with something like 40,000 Aussies unable to get back here. Gotta love ashes time :)

Fingers crossed! I've heard a possibility that Melbourne/Sydney would take place at the usual time, with the other three Tests after them, so it would be all next year. If it means I can make any of them I'll be happy. Ashes time is great, always a good laugh with the Aussies; I had a belting trip back in 2017. :)

Yes, I like my hometown, we have a bit of everything here (no glaciers  ::)), but nothing too fancy so it attracts tourists 😉.

:iagree: excellent pics Eric :like:

About time I posted something myself here, can't have you guys doing all the work now can I  ;).

These are from 3rd March.
Parked at the Lake Lyndon Lodge then climbed SW up to point 1170.
A couple minutes after sitting down against a tussock to hide from the freezing wind I noticed this weta cruising past.

Canterbury tree weta, Hemideina femorata.

Big Ben Range to the left and Mt Hutt Range to the right.

Got something new last week, something that had been on my "most wanted" list since I was 14 years old (back in '91).

Not tool related but I thought you guys might like it as well  ;).

It's hard to capture the colour, especially with artificial light conditions,  so I'll add a stock picture as well.

After 30 years I finally own a real Gibson Les Paul  :woohoo:.

For some reason I felt the need to buy a top hat, a long dark coloured wig, sunglasses, and put a cigarette in my mouth...

But the misses told me not to...  ;)

Cowboy boots, jeans, Hawaiian shirt, mirrowed sunglasses and a mobile phone might suffice ;)

If you're into cars and smoking a '68 Camaro, pack of Chesterfields, sunglasses and a suit should also do the trick :) :)

Congratulations Eric absolutely superb :like:

Thanks John .

Yes, I'm very excited about it, my dream guitar...  :dd:.

I've picked up my old Squier Stratocaster around this time last year, after playing the cr*p out of it in the 90's it found its way into the bedroom corner, went through two times of moving into another house, and got forgotten for almost 20 years.

When I picked it up last year, it didn't work anymore, and since I had no idea whether it was the guitar or the amp that was broke, I dropped it off at a local music instruments shop.

They repaired it, I got myself a new (and way better amp) and since then bought myself two acoustic Martin guitars (a DX-2E and a Martin LX-1 Mini Martin), one acoustic Sigma DMC-1STE-BK for my oldest son, and a Squier Strat (a beautiful 50's replica) and amp for my youngest son, and two Ukuleles for our little girl  ;).

Sadly enough our little girl is the only one who regularly picks up one of her Ukuleles, our boys have played for about 15 minutes on their guitars since we bought them...  Oh well, guitars age quite well, and who knows, maybe the will get tired of their Playstations, at one point (rather sooner than later, I hope).

Anyway, I've learned more this past year as in 10 years of playing guitar in the 90's.

And the Gibson Les Paul is the icing on the cake for me  :D.

I'm still a less than average guitar player in my own opinion, but I'm enjoying each minute of playing them, guess that's what really matters, right?

Thank you, TG and Zoidberg, for all the beautiful pictures, I really enjoy it!
Congratulations on this great instrument, Eric!
