Split ring back spring on a deluxe tinker question?

Can the split ring backspring from the can/bottle opener layer be used on the scissor layer instead?

Nope, too thin and the shape is all wrong.

You can splice in the eye on a standard spring though and that works too.  Make one or grind up an opener spring and fit it in.  I make a dovetail shape in the meaty part of the spring and it works.
