Modded Surge
on: December 27, 2012, 03:51:53 PM
Got a question. I replaced the plier head on my Surge with the head from a ST 300. What do I have to do to get it to close 100%? Do I need to snap off the plier head stops in the handles or will that cause the ends of the pliers to wedge inbetween the bits?
Thanks
Scott

You bet, the little prongs that spring out to stop the blades from opening when the pliers are open. Wear gloves if you are going to hold the handle in your hand, I got cut twice doing the same thing. Fool me three times, no.

Slowly bend them back until they snap  if you do it too quickly the rivet might get disturbed and you will be in another heap of trouble if that happens.

The man speaks the truth, putting it all back together correctly after the locking lever spring pulled off the rivet was a proper PITA.  Next time I think I'll bear down next to the rivet to make sure it isn't disturbed.  It is easier if you do it while there are no pliers in the handle (and no knife to cut you then. either)

I dont see what the big deal is about the rivet.

It doesn't do anything.

The rivet holds the inside tool lock back spring. Without it, the tools don't lock...
