I'm enjoying a rare 3day weekend as I write.I'd booked the time to go here:http://www.motorsportatthepalace.co.uk/
As a kid I'd read my dads old motorbike mags, and as I got more and more into car racing,I'd see the old stories of racing at Crystal Palace.I eventually got there 8 or 9 years ago,and was very happy to fid an old program from one of the last bike meetings in the early 70s.
Back in the day, everyone from Stirling Moss to Mike Hailwood and John Surtess raced full spec Sports Cars,F2 cars and 500cc motoGP bike there.I was thrilled to find out that there was going to be racing(albeit sprints) there again.
Heres a few of the 180 odd pix I took
One of the first 2 TV transmitter towers in the UK!
Honda 125cc DOHC twin, former GP bike from 62 or 63(as far as I can remember)
Anyone else miss Sidecar racing?
A Bristol for smurf sakes!?!!
One of the many very quick and mental Minis
A replica,but we'll forgive it
Lastly, the newest and the oldest cars racing
Nismo Nissan Leaf, very rapid, zero emissions(but please PLEASE dont ask how green the batteries ARNT!),And its utterly silent
And a 1923 GN,which if my memory serves me has an 85 year racing history behind it!Guess which one I'm in love with!
Hope you've enjoyed,if you'd like to see more just
