Any love for Harvesters????
on: May 29, 2012, 12:06:02 AM
Hey its really impressive how many farmer love threads were made (read them all for the great pics with colored alox :D )
But since I chose and edc a harvester (sadly silver not something fancier) I d like to see a Harvester dedicated thread with hopefully colored and silver harvester in nice photos ;)
Hope I m not asking for much :P

Frankly I'm shocked that the Farmer is more popular than the Harvester or the Electrician Plus.

Unfortunately the Harvester has not yet been made in anywhere near the number of colors that the Farmer as seen.

I don't have any really new wonderful pictures, but this one is as they say... an oldie, but a goodie.

Nice thread! :gimme:

Big Harvester and Electrician Plus fan here myself. Plus that I think I am part of some (minuscule perhaps) minority who prefer the Harvester (and also the Electrician Plus) to the mighty Farmer. Sorry, no photos to post yet.

I have a harvester  :tu: and it's part of my micro tool tin HERE

Confession time:
On all the occasions I've carried that tin ... I've never used the harvester  :-\
To be honest though it's my "I'm pretty sure I'll not need anything but I'll take a little assortment just in case" tin which only gets carried occasionally. To get upset about not having to break that tin out would be like getting upset because I haven't had to use the first aid kit  :P :D :D

volbu, I have some black Farmers and Pioneers just waiting to be transformed into Harvesters and Electrician Plus, something for another day when I have time to master the peen.  One day I'm going to get both the Electrician's blade and the small pruner in a SAK with black Alox handles... then I don't have to debate Electrician plus or harvester.

This harvester is a true beauty, inside and out!

Indeed it is a beauty!

Speaking of both small utility blades into a 93mm SAK: there was done the LE orange Electrician Duo Plus not long ago. I wish to see more similar runs in the future.

I also wish Victorinox did not discontinue the Electrician Plus so early (and more recently it looks the Harvester as well).

That is a great knife, but unfortunately I want to keep the reamer.  I suspect most Electricians would too, it's just too useful.

That's OK at least it will show how many fans are out there, some may prefer the poll more than posting anything to the thread.  There must be at least 6 fans... ha ha... it's better that the Farmer fans don't vote or we'll look like a mighty small group.

I've got a couple of Harvesters. Frankly I prefer the Farmer...the pruning blade hasn't been all that useful and one of these days I might get frustrated enough to grind it straight...or tear the knives apart and put in can openers  ::)

I don't own a Harvester, but I want one. :gimme:
That pruningblade looks perfect for opening packages and harvesting apples.
And that saw would certanly come in handy when trimming my apple trees in the spring.
Only problem is the importtaxes to Norway makes it a bit too expensive. (all gods that cost more than $33,5 +shipping is taxed (25%) and gets an additional customs fee of $14 )
Havent been able to find a harvester for less than 33,50 so I might have to settle for a Rancher or Farmer :(

Actually, a Harvester is my default 93 mm EDC these days. I love that design and prefer it over the Farmer, from the lack of a painful keyring to the handy pruning blade. I should take some pictures...

I seems I was a bit too quick to state that finding one cheaper than $33,50 was difficult. Found me a Harvester at Felinvet for $28.99+ shipping. (they have 8 more)    :D

I bought my wife a Farmer when I got my Vic Alox Soldier, and I wish I'd kept the Farmer - Brilliant knife!

We're keen gardeners and my wife uses hers all the time.

I think the pruning blade on the Harvester wouldn't be as useful as the can opener/SD.

Got to say it's the Farmer for me. That little blade on the Harvester looks useful, but the small screwdriver on the can opener is too handy to sacrifice.

Hehehe, #1, even. :D

I think part of my love for the Harvester stems from a time I was trying to think of a truly future proof SAK. I soon realized what I was describing was pretty much the Harvester. (Cap lifters may be going the way of the Dodo some places, but certainly not over here, especially since there is no real alternative when home brewing.)

I don't know about you guys, but I still have to use a can opener pretty regularly.

And the best sodas (and I presume beers) only come with non-twisty caps, so bottle openers are still used once in a while, too :P).

I'm going to have to agree with Steinar on this one. Here only the cheapest canned mushorms, corn and stew come in cans that has to be opened with a can opener.

To me, giving up the small flat head/make-shift phillips head is too much to ask for a second blade.

I love my Harvester.
It's been my "gentleman's" edc since I got it from Reinier :)
And with gentleman I really mean gentleman, it lives in the pocket of either of my 2 vests (or 'gilets' en français).
In olden times a pochet watch would live in those little pockets, but since I have the time on my iPhone, I decided that it was a good place for my Harvester  >:D
I think it's classy :D
