A friend of my daughter went to Switzerland for holiday and brought me this knife back ---What a beauty ---- unfortunately its sold in only a plastic holder with no Item no. or info, so whether its sold as a commemorative peace for tourist to the Lion Monument or some special anniversary edition I don't know.

listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky,
is by no means a waste of time

How cool a knife!
The work takes on a life unplanned
and the painter finds the painting directs the hand

Mark Twain called this sculpture “the most
mournful and moving piece of stone in the world.”

Yes it really is an impressive work of art, carved out of a rock face, its the emotion in the Lions face that really captures you ---- well that's my arty farty comment of the day  :D   if anybody is interested, it was bought at Harry's Swiss Watch Center --- Pfistergasse 5 Lucerne

The company that did that offers 50 or 60 other handles also. I've managed to pick up a couple, but have never found a mail-order source for them. SwissBianco at one time was trying to work a deal with them but it fell through.

I have the same knife and have to admit when I saw it in the shop I was expecting it to be a bit of a tourist piece ( which it is :) ) but the scales are very well done and really add something to the knife.

You see them in most of the gift shops in Switzerland with loads of different scales .... but the lion is great ..... damn sad but great :)

Cannot wait to see it in person now.  :mail:
I'll post photos when it arrives.

Looks like I've found another series to collect.  :ahhh

I can confirm that all the tools are standard and not gold plated.
Another two below from the same dealer.

I just ordered out the gold-plated Lion of Luzern and Kapellbrucke from Harry's Swiss Watch Shop. The one I would really like to get is the Matterhorn.

From the SAK Owner's Manual -

This sculpture viewed across a quiet pond in a small park in Lucerne is truly a powerfully sad monument to courage in the face of death.  There is a story and a history, and now a beautiful knife.  There were the soldiers, their sacrifice for their brothers, and one aspect of what it is to be Swiss, to be human ...

It's a very nice piece of sculpture, but one point maybe needs to be mentioned. The troops in question were mercenaries working for a French king who didn't trust his own troops to protect him from his own people.

That's the one, though I'd prefer the partly gold-plated one. Do you know of a source?

Thanks,
