Like most of the Byrd designs the ByrdRench is just a cheaper version of the SpydeRench. To be honest I wouldn't recommend it except that it's easier to find/more readily available than the SpydeRench. What really bothered me about it was that it is pretty well around the same price as the SpydeRench- usually the Byrd is found around the $80 mark (although there have been some deals found here and there) while the Spyder can be had for around $100 or so. Honestly, for that difference, I would pick the SpydeRench every time, assuming one wanted to spend money on an awkward tool! Here are some comparison pics from my review:(Image removed from quote.)(Image removed from quote.)(Image removed from quote.)(Image removed from quote.)(Image removed from quote.)(Image removed from quote.)Once again I think these were a great concept but I would have liked to see a second generation addressing some of the issues with them rather than just the reissues they keep doing. There is some great potential here with a few design tweaks.Def
They are a neat tool with lots of good ideas in them- I just think that they need to go back to the drawing board and update the design to address some of the issues with them- issues such as when you take the rasp/file out to get at the screwdriver bits, then if you don't put the rasp/file back before using the screwdriver all the other bits fall out as soon as you turn the handle. Or that the pliers always lock or fall apart when opened a certain distance. Or that despite it being quite large it has relatively few features, and is missing very basic things like bottle/can openers and wire cutters.I love the design and I can see where they were going with it, but I think its not quite there yet, but it could be relatively easily.Def

I'm kinda glad I don't have one.I forgot the lack of Wire cutters is why I bought a swiss tool spirit instead of the spyderwrench. If I find a deal on a used one I'm still going to try it.Spyderco Can make a better Tool. We need a new made in U.S.A. Spydertool.
I have a little rule of buy knife from knife companies, tool from tool companies, and flashlight from flashlight companies. While one can make another it'll never be as good/value. Well spyderco isn't a tool company.
